Does Multilingualism Shape Aging Equally Across Populations?

Multilingualism has emerged as a complex sociocognitive and behavioral trait with potential implications for cognitive resilience, functional capacity, and healthy aging. Recent large-scale European studies suggest that multilingual exposure is associated with more favorable biobehavioral aging profiles when cognitive, functional, and cardiometabolic domains are jointly considered. However, the interpretation and generalization of these findings require careful contextualization. In many regions of the Global South, particularly in Africa and Latin America, multilingual experiences are frequen

Exploring the Four-Dimensional Impact of Pain-Related and/or Intra-Articular Temporomandibular Disorder Symptoms on Oral Health-Related Quality of Life Among Young Adults.

OBJECTIVES: A four-dimensional structure for oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) was recently proposed, comprising oral function (OF), orofacial pain (OP), orofacial appearance (OA) and psychosocial impact (PI). This study examined the impact of different temporomandibular disorder (TMD) symptoms on the four OHRQoL dimensions in young adults. It also correlated the four dimensions with the seven Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP) domains. METHODS: Young adults were recruited from a large university. The quintessential five TMD symptoms (5Ts) and OHIP-14 were used to assess TMD symptom

Advancing Neuromodulation for Functional Movement Disorders: A Contemporary Narrative Review of Evidence, Gaps, and Future Outlook.

BACKGROUND: Functional movement disorders (FMDs) manifest as involuntary motor symptoms incongruent with known neuroanatomy. Once attributed to psychological factors, FMDs are now recognized as neurobiological conditions involving disrupted brain networks. They account for 2-20% of movement disorder referrals globally. While multidisciplinary rehabilitation benefits 60-70% of patients, 30-40% remain treatment-refractory, highlighting the need for biologically targeted therapies. OBJECTIVES: This review synthesizes evidence on neuromodulation for FMDs, aiming to: (1) identify modifiable neural

Patient-reported outcomes in tuberculosis: a qualitative exploration of psychosocial, economic, and treatment-related challenges.

OBJECTIVE: Personal experiences, perceptions, and views of patients are crucial in understanding the subjective impacts of diseases. The complexity and duration of tuberculosis treatment impose significant physical, emotional, social, and economic burdens, highlighting the need for person-centered, integrated care strategies that address stigma, fatigue, and accessibility to support well-being. Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) are essential for capturing patient perspectives and improving health care strategies. In this study we explored the multifaceted experiences of patients with tuberculos

Novelty of Physiotherapy Protocols in a Classic Case of Extrapulmonary Tuberculosis in a 35-Year-Old Male Patient: A Case Report.

Tuberculosis is the most frequent cause of death, specifically caused by a single infectious agent, Mycobacterium tuberculosis. There are two types of tuberculosis: pulmonary tuberculosis and extrapulmonary tuberculosis. Patients with extrapulmonary tuberculosis often have reduced lung function due to the disease's structural abnormalities, which also significantly impair their quality of life. The suggested standard of care for the treatment of extrapulmonary tuberculosis patients is pulmonary rehabilitation. A 35-year-old male patient who complained of shortness of breath, dry cough, and on-

Peer victimization and associated alcohol and substance use: Prospective pathways for negative outcomes.

A considerable number of studies have documented associations between peer victimization and concurrent and prospective increase in alcohol and substance use. Only a handful have investigated the psychological (e.g., internalizing behavior) and biological (e.g., neural systems) factors that contribute to this relation. Emerging studies provide clues as to mechanisms that may underlie increased risk for alcohol and substance use and associated problems in peer victimized youth, which may serve as potential targets for intervention. This review proposes a conceptual framework of increased alcoho
