Gene and environmental factors are instrumental in genesis of complex and wide range of disorders and syndromes. The newer gene sequencing and other advanced technologies have made our previous knowledge of genetic etiopathogenesis of various disorders more transparent. Single gene disorders refer to the disorders caused due to mutations in a single gene and a fair number of these manifest as craniofacial defects and anomalies. This review is an attempt to give a detailed insight into the varied single gene disorders and syndromes with an emphasis on dental implications.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the value of cone beam CT (CBCT) in the treatment of jaw bone cyst.
METHODS: Twenty-five patients with jaw bone cyst were included, which were examined by CBCT as an addition of panoramic radiography. Through CBCT, the information about the three-dimensional location, the bone wall of cyst and the relationship between cyst, teeth and some other important anatomical structures were studied, surgical preparations and treatments followed accordingly.

For understanding the problems in the head and neck region of divers, knowledge of some physical laws is needed. Primarily, problems of diving are related to barotrauma: tissue-damage by pressure. The most frequent problems encoutered with diving are problems in closed cavities, such as in ears, teeth, and sinuses. Other problems occuring are those of temporomandibular joints, facial nerves, and oral mucosal tissues.

The purpose of this study was to increase understanding of the factors initiating feline odontoclastic resorptive lesions (FORLs). Fifty-six teeth (clinically and radiographically unaffected by ORLs) were harvested. Of these, 43 were from cats that had ORLs in other teeth (group A) and 13 were from cats with no clinical or radiographic evidence of ORLs in any teeth (group B). Severe orofacial pain often is diagnosed as trigeminal neuralgia, with little distinction made as to which type--typical or atypical. In addition, osteonecrosis of the jaws quite often produces symptoms which mimic trigeminal neuralgia. Unless diagnosed correctly, a patient suffering from a condition of "dead bone" may be referred for unnecessary neurosurgery. The general dentist often is the one doctor who can make the proper diagnosis and guide the patient toward the proper treatment.

The result of surgical repositioning of 12 unerupted anterior teeth was studied. The unerupted teeth were gently exposed, gradually repositioned by shifting them bodily toward the occlusal plane without disturbing the periodontal ligament, and splinted for 3 wk. Root canal therapy was performed at the end of the second week following repositioning. Obturation was done at the end of the third week just before splint removal. Clinical and radiographic examination (follow-up period: 6 months to 3.5 yr) revealed no root resorption with satisfactory apical healing and healthy supporting tissues.
