Functional Results of Unstable (Type 2) Distal Clavicle Fractures Treated with Superior Anterior Locking Plate.

BACKGROUND: The treatment of distal clavicle fracture is always a challenge, as it is mostly unstable and has higher rate of delayed union, malunion, non-union and associated acromioclavicular arthritis. So the management of these fractures remains controversial. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the functional results of Type 2 distal end clavicle fractures treated with superior anterior locking plate. METHODS: From June 2011 to August 2015 a retrospective study of12 male patients (mean age of 41.3 years) 11 with unilateral and 1 with bilateral distal clavicle fractures treated with s

Surgical treatment of comminuted mandibular fractures using a low-profile locking mandibular reconstruction plate system.

OBJECTIVE: The treatment of comminuted mandibular fractures is challenging due to the severity of associated injuries and the need for a careful diagnosis with adequate treatment planning. Recently, open reduction and stable internal fixation (OR-IF) with a load-bearing reconstruction plate have been advocated for reliable clinical outcomes with minimal complications. This clinical prospective study evaluated OR-IF in the surgical management of comminuted mandibular fractures with a new low-profile, thin, mandibular locking reconstruction plate. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We prospectively assesse

[Osteosynthesis of trochanteric fracture with percutaneus compression plate (PC.C.P.)].

In terms of frequency, trochanteric fractures represent one of the most common problems in adult traumatology. Considering their physical and psychological consequences, and the patients mean age, they constitute one of the most acute public health problems faced by the elderly. Surgical reduction is currently considered as preferred treatment. Stable fixation of the fracture focus by osteosynthesis allows early mobilization of the treated member, central axis of the body. A series of 35 patients with a mean age of 78, surgically treated with Gotfried percutaneous plating between June 1998 and

[Incomplete, supracondylar femur osteotomy. A minimally invasive compression osteosynthesis with soft implant].

The aim of treatment of a valgus deformity and osteoarthrosis of the lateral compartment of the knee is to obtain axial correction of the misalignment of the extremity. Osteosynthesis of the osteotomized femur using internal fixation and a stiff implant has not been as successful as expected. We evaluated the accuracy of correction and the stability of fixation with a malleable plate after supracondylar osteotomy of the distal aspect of the femur that was performed to correct a valgus deformity of the knee. We performed an incomplete oblique closing-wedge osteotomy of the distal aspect of the

Targeted expression of constitutively active receptors for parathyroid hormone and parathyroid hormone-related peptide delays endochondral bone formation and rescues mice that lack parathyroid hormone-related peptide.

Mice in which the genes encoding the parathyroid hormone (PTH)-related peptide (PTHrP) or the PTH/PTHrP receptor have been ablated by homologous recombination show skeletal dysplasia due to accelerated endochondral bone formation, and die at birth or in utero, respectively. Skeletal abnormalities due to decelerated chondrocyte maturation are observed in transgenic mice where PTHrP expression is targeted to the growth plate, and in patients with Jansen metaphyseal chondrodysplasia, a rare genetic disorder caused by constitutively active PTH/PTHrP receptors. These and other findings thus indicat

Rebound of Frontal Plane Malalignment After Tension Band Plating.

BACKGROUND: Despite the popularity of tension band plating (TBP) current literature lacks clinical data concerning recurrence ("rebound") of frontal plane malalignment. This study investigated the rebound phenomenon after TBP in idiopathic genu varum/valgum deformities. We analyzed factors that may contribute to the development of rebound after removal of TBP. METHODS: Patients who had correction of idiopathic valgus or varus deformities by TBP at the distal femoral and/or proximal tibial growth plate were selected from a prospective consecutive database. Only patients who had plates removed

Operative Treatment of Adolescent Diaphyseal Clavicle Fracture: Elastic Stable Intramedullary Nail Versus Plate Fixation.

Background and Objectives: Adolescent diaphyseal clavicle fracture surgery has increased in recent years. However, the optimal operative method remains debated, particularly between elastic stable intramedullary nailing (ESIN) and plate fixation. This study compared postoperative outcomes and complication rates between ESIN and plate fixation for treating diaphyseal clavicle fractures in adolescent patients. Materials and Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of 35 adolescents who underwent surgery for diaphyseal clavicle fractures between 2010 and 2024. Patients were assigned to either

Thoracic Inlet Syndrome After Surgically Treated Clavicle Fracture.

A 25-year-old female patient complained of intermittent pseudoradicular, ulnar-accentuated tingling paraesthesias of the right arm, accompanied by swelling and cyanotic skin discolouration of the forearm 9 days following plate osteosynthesis of a clavicle shaft fracture in the middle third (OTA classification type B). CT angiography revealed almost complete obstruction of the lumen of the subclavian vein at the junction between the clavicle and the first rib, which was consistent with a thoracic inlet syndrome. This was triggered by a haematoma of the concomitantly fractured first rib and a co

Primary stability of multi-hole acetabular cup combined with posterior column plating for the fixation of complex acetabular fractures in elderly patients: a biomechanical analysis.

BACKGROUND: Acute total hip arthroplasty has gained increasing popularity in the treatment of complex acetabular fractures in elderly patients, but the biomechanical evidence is lacking. Therefore, we measured the primary stability to evaluate whether acute total hip arthroplasty using a multi-hole acetabular cup and posterior column plating through a single K-L approach can safely be used for treating complexed acetabular fractures in the elderly. METHODS: In 18 composite osteoporotic hemipelves, T-type acetabular fractures were treated in three ways: CSP (Cup with acetabular screws augmenta

Comparison of screw versus locking plate fixation via sinus tarsi approach for displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures.

BACKGROUND: The optimal treatment of displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures (DIACF) is controversial. This study compared the fixation stability of screws and locking plates in DIACF treated via the sinus tarsi approach (STA). METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated 118 DIACF cases treated via STA and extracted data that could affect treatment outcomes. Loss of Böhler's angle after surgery was measured to compare fixation stability. RESULTS: The loss of Böhler's angles was significantly smaller in the locking plate group than in the screw group (2.6 ± 2.7º vs. 5.6 ± 5.3º, P < 0.01). The
