Three cases of vertebral osteomyelitis in intravenous drug abusers are described, and 64 cases in the literature are reviewed. The patients were almost exclusively heroin users from the United States, were predominantly male, and were frequently of black or Hispanic ethnic background. A study was conducted on 40 patients with abruptio placentae complicated by intrauterine death of the fetus, consumption coagulopathy and uterine inertia. All patients had severe hyperfibrinolysis (FDP > 300 microgram/ml). Following correction of shock, amniotomy was performed, intrauterine pressure catheters were placed, and oxytocin infusions were begun in all cases. In this prospective study iv-cholegraphy was performed before surgery on 152 patients by whom acute cholecystitis could not be excluded. The examination was diagnostic in 85% of the cases. Nine anesthetized dogs were provided with acute common duct fistulas after exclusion of the gallbladder. Synthetic Substance P was administered as caval infusions in a dosage of 0.5-20 ng x kg-1 x min-1, duration 10 min. Renal arteriography gives a reliable anatomic delineation of the renal vasculature. However, the presence of renal arterial disease does not determine the physiologic significance of the lesion. The intravenous infusion of saralasin, a specific angiotensin II antagonist, has been investigated as a method for identifying patients with hypertension dependent upon excessive angiotensin II activity. Correlations between the blood pressure response to saralasin infusion, peripheral and differential renal vein plasma renin levels and renal angiography have been obtained in 35 hypertensive patients.

The feasibility of furosemide test for the detection of endolymphatic hydrops has previously been discussed (Authors, 1973, 1975). The glycerol test also has been reported as being effective for the same purpose but only in Meniere patients with fluctuating hearing loss (Klockhoff & Lindblom, 1966). It has been employed in a variety of operative procedures and to modify convulsions in the management of tetanus and in electroconvulsive therapy. Two beta-blocking agents with different properties were used to define the adrenergic component of the renin release which follows orthostasis.
