The remarkable effect of menstrual blood stem cells seeded on bilayer scaffold composed of amniotic membrane and silk fibroin aiming to promote wound healing in diabetic mice.

INTRODUCTION: Impaired chronic wound healing frequently occurs in diabetic patients. We hypothesized that menstrual blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MenSCs) in combination with bilayer scaffold consisted of human amniotic membrane (AM) and electrospun silk fibroin nanofibers could potentially promote wound healing in diabetic mice. METHODS & METHODS: Two bilateral full-thickness wounds were created on dorsal skin of type-1 diabetic mice model and animals were equally divided in four groups including: no-treatment group (NT), amniotic membrane treated group (AM), bilayer scaffold treated

Development of human ectocervical tissue models with physiologic endocrine and paracrine signaling†.

There is a shortage of research models that adequately represent the unique mucosal environment of human ectocervix, limiting development of new therapies for treating infertility, infection, or cancer. We developed three microphysiologic human ectocervix models to study hormone action during homeostasis. First, we reconstructed ectocervix using decellularized extracellular matrix scaffolds, which supported cell integration and could be clinically useful. Secondly, we generated organotypic systems consisting of ectocervical explants co-cultured with murine ovaries or cycling exogenous hormones

Hormonal changes and reproductive health issues in females with tuberculosis.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: The association between tuberculosis (TB) and female reproductive health issues usually remains unaddressed. TB is considered as one of the major causes of infertility in India. Because of the associated stigma, the suffering females do not discuss the problems they are facing. This may lead to disturbances in serum hormone levels also. Hence, a study was planned to find abnormalities in menstrual patterns and fertility in women in childbearing age, who were suffering from TB, and evaluate disturbances in serum hormone levels of LH, FSH, Prolactin and testosterone, if any. It

Ovarian aging in women with diabetes: An overview.

Type 2 diabetes is a global epidemic, and the prevalence and incidence of type 1 diabetes are increasing. The negative effects of diabetes on kidneys, nerves, and vessels are well established. The effect of diabetes on reproductive function is less well understood, but important to characterize, given the increasing numbers of young women with diabetes. In this review, we summarize the available literature on how women with diabetes experience ovarian aging, from menarche to menopause. We report that women with type 1 diabetes appear more likely to have ovarian dysfunction, manifested by delay

Impact of chemotherapy-induced amenorrhea in breast cancer patients: the evaluation of ovarian function by menstrual history and hormonal levels.

BACKGROUND: Chemotherapy-induced amenorrhea (CIA) is one of the most frequent therapy-related adverse events observed in breast cancer patients who have undergone chemotherapy. Although the characteristics of CIA have been studied in Western countries, little is known about CIA in Asian. We conducted a retrospective analysis to assess the characteristics and influencing factors of CIA and its association with menopause in Chinese women who underwent adjuvant chemotherapy for early-stage breast cancer. METHODS: Seventy-three premenopausal women who underwent adjuvant chemotherapy for early sta

Progestogen deficiency and endometrial cancer risk.

There is a close relationship between the amount of estogen and progesterone secreted by the ovary from puberty to menopause and the development of hyperplastic endometrium of all types and finally endometrial cancer. The endogenous endocrine pattern reflects progesterone deficiency (corpus luteum deficiency). Such deficiency can also develop when treatment with exogenous estrogen and progestogen is done and a deficiency of the progestogen in comparison to the used estrogen is induced in pre- and postmenopausal women. This risk is particular accentuated in the climacteric female when the endoc
