Endovascular assisted removal of intrapelvic lag screw after intramedullary proximal femoral nail: A case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Trochanteric fractures are very common hip injuries often fixed with intramedullary nailing as the recommended treatment. Medial lag screw migration of the intramedullary nail system is an uncommon complication. The objective of this case report is to highlight the importance of optimal reduction in hip fractures and the need for a multidisciplinary approach with vascular assistance in intrapelvic lag screw migration. CASE REPORT AND RESULTS: We collected 24 cases of intrapelvic migration of the lag screw in the latest literature. Here, we report the case of a 68-year-old patient

Clinical and Radiological Outcomes of Paediatric Forearm Fractures of the Radius and Ulna Following Fixation by Intramedullary Nailing or Plating: A Systematic Review.

Ipsilateral forearm fractures of both the radius and ulna in children are one of the most common forms of injuries in this population. They often result from axial loading on the hand and wrist following a fall on an outstretched hand. These injuries can often be managed either conservatively or operatively. Non-operative management involves the use of cast immobilisation after satisfactory closed reduction. Most fractures managed conservatively have been noted to have a successful outcome. Surgical options of management include the use of intramedullary nailing (IMN), plates and screws, hybri

Homozygous Missense Variant in the Solute Carrier Organic Anion Transporter 2A1 (SLCO2A1) Gene Underlies Isolated Nail Clubbing.

BACKGROUND: Inherited isolated nail clubbing is a very rare Mendelian condition in humans, characterized by enlargement of the terminal segments of fingers and toes with thickened nails. Mutations in two genes have been reported to cause isolated nail clubbing in humans, which are the SLCO2A1 gene and the HPGD gene. OBJECTIVES: An extended Pakistani family having two affected siblings born of unaffected consanguineous union was included in the study. Predominant isolated congenital nail clubbing (ICNC) without any other systemic abnormalities was observed, which we aimed to characterize at cl…

Mycophenolate Mofetil in the Treatment of Severe Corticosteroid-Dependent or Corticosteroid-Resistant Nail Lichen Planus: A Case Series of 5 Patients.

INTRODUCTION: Recent expert recommendations suggest mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) as a third-line therapy, in severe corticosteroid-dependent or corticosteroid-resistant nail lichen planus (NLP). However, there is currently no literature to support MMF use in this indication. This is a retrospective monocentric French case series of 5 patients with severe corticodependant or corticoresistant NLP treated by oral MMF (2-3 g/day), between 2013 and 2021. CASE PRESENTATION: The primary outcome was therapeutic success in a target fingernail. All 5 patients showed some clinical improvement, ranging fr

Successful Treatment of Atypical Femoral Fracture with Bowed Femur Using Contralateral Intramedullary Nail Combined with Early Daily Teriparatide.

We report a case of atypical femoral fracture achieving early fracture union with combination therapy comprising contralateral nail and immediate teriparatide injection. Fracture union of atypical fractures is often delayed due to bowing deformity and bone metabolic disorders. Combination treatment that takes both problems into consideration represents a useful treatment option for atypical femoral fracture.

Calcar fracture gapping: a reliable predictor of anteromedial cortical support failure after cephalomedullary nailing for pertrochanteric femur fractures.

BACKGROUND: Maintaining anteromedial cortical support is essential for controlling sliding and decreasing postoperative implant-related complications. However, adequate fracture reduction with cortical support in immediate postoperative fluoroscopy is not invariable in postoperative follow-ups. This study was conducted to investigate the risk factors leading to anteromedial cortical support failure in follow up for pertrochanteric femur fractures treated with cephalomedullary nails. METHODS: This retrospective study enrolled 159 patients with pertrochanteric fractures (AO/OTA- 31A1 and 31A2) …
