Feasibility of implementing a mindfulness-based program for paediatric intensive care unit staff.

BACKGROUND: Paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) clinicians are particularly susceptible to workplace stress due to frequent ethical dilemmas (for example, perceptions of futile or unethical treatment), patient morbidity and mortality, sleep disruption, and emotional exhaustion, putting them at increased risk of anxiety, depression, and burnout. The psychological well-being of these healthcare professionals is vital for maintaining high standards of patient care and safety. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of implementing a mindfulness-based program among PICU

Perspectives in Pediatric Ambulatory Anesthesia: Part 1-One Center's 15 Year Evolution in Eligibility, Utilization, Efficiency, and Outcomes.

INTRODUCTION: Ambulatory surgery has become the dominant model of surgical care in the United States as surgical procedures increasingly shifted from inpatient to outpatient sites of practice. Similar growth in volumes has been observed in pediatric practice. Investigators have highlighted the challenges and opportunities in this current climate, including increasing medical and procedural complexity, difficulties matching pediatric-specific resources to meet the child's perioperative needs and unique risk profile, and limited availability of pediatric ambulatory surgical and anesthesia guidel

Case Report: Neuroretinitis following combination checkpoint inhibition therapy with nivolumab and ipilimumab for stage IIIC melanoma.

PURPOSE: Neuroretinitis is a very rare but recognized immune-related adverse event (irAE) of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy. We present a case of likely ICI-associated neuroretinitis following combination nivolumab and ipilimumab treatment for stage IIIC cutaneous melanoma. OBSERVATIONS: Our patient is a 48-year-old woman with stage IIIC melanoma who developed acute left eye vision loss approximately three months after initiating nivolumab and ipilimumab, near the end of a corticosteroid taper for a concurrent systemic irAE. Examination showed best-corrected visual acuity of 20/400

Perioperative central retinal artery occlusion after prone posterior cervical spine surgery treated with delayed hyperbaric oxygen therapy: a case report and targeted literature review.

BACKGROUND: Perioperative central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) is a rare but potentially devastating cause of visual loss after non-ocular surgery. Prone spinal and posterior cervical procedures may increase ocular risk through local orbital compression, impaired venous drainage and reduced ocular perfusion. Management is particularly difficult after surgery, when diagnosis may be delayed, conventional reperfusion strategies may be impractical or relatively contraindicated, and the role of delayed hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) remains uncertain. CASE PRESENTATION: A 53-year-old man with

[Retreatment after keratorefractive lenticule extraction (KLEx) : Results of various methods and influence of the recommendations of the Committee for Refractive Surgery (KRC) on the incidence of retreatment].

BACKGROUND: Keratorefractive lenticule extraction (KLEx) has been shown to be safe and effective for the correction of myopia and myopic astigmatism. Residual refractive errors reduce the uncorrected postoperative visual acuity leading to patient dissatisfaction and increased retreatment rates. AIM OF THE STUDY: The aim was to assess the potential influence of the recommendations of the Committee for Refractive Surgery (KRC) on the likelihood of retreatment and to compare the results of various methods for retreatment after KLEx for myopia. METHODS: Retrospective study of eyes with myopia an

Retroprosthetic Membrane Is Associated With Subsequent Development of de Novo Angle Closure in Eyes With Boston Keratoprosthesis.

PURPOSE: Boston keratoprosthesis (KPro) is a widely used treatment for corneal diseases unsuitable for traditional keratoplasty. Postoperative complications, notably retroprosthetic membrane (RPM) formation and secondary glaucoma, significantly affect patient outcomes. Anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) enables precise visualization of KPro-related complications, such as angle closure and RPM formation. This study aimed to investigate the association between RPM formation and de novo angle closure in eyes with Boston KPro. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of patients who

A comparative clinical study of postoperative care by teleophthalmology and in-person consultation at hospital outpatient department after an uncomplicated cataract surgery.

BACKGROUND: Teleophthalmology provides an opportunity to conduct consultations in far-flung and remote areas that have no access to specialized eye care. However, there is a paucity of studies to assess the effect of missing in-person follow-up on initial postoperative visits. The study thus aims to compare postoperative satisfaction and uncorrected distance visual activity after an uneventful phacoemulsification cataract surgery in patients with teleconsultation approach to those with hospital visit. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The prospective observation study (n = 240) was conducted in patients

Eplerenone for the Treatment of Chronic Recurrent Chorioretinopathy Centralis Serosa.

BACKGROUND: Chorioretinopathy centralis serosa (CCS) is a common disease that leads to the loss of retinal ion/fluid homeostasis due to decompensation of the retinal pigment epithelium, resulting in fluid accumulation with detachment of the neurosensory retina and/or retinal pigment epithelium. We investigated the effect of eplerenone, a mineralocorticoid receptor inhibitor, on chronic recurrent CCS (cr-CCS). METHODS: A retrospective study with data analysis of 17 eyes (12 patients) between 2014 - 2021 with cr-CCS in whom other methods were not effective, not applicable, or not desired, was p
