To explore the risk factors and circumstances for burns in a population of persons with epilepsy, we surveyed 244 University of Colorado Health Sciences Center Seizure Clinic patients. Twenty-five had at least one seizure-related burn requiring medical attention (12 were hospitalized), 21 reported burns requiring medical attention not related to seizure activity, and 199 reported no burns. Clinical and laboratory parameters investigated in pseudotuberculosis patients with and without CO proved patients with mixed infection to be more seriously affected. They had more pronounced polymorphism of clinical symptoms, more severe intoxication, fever, hepato- and splenomegaly, longer convalescence, more frequent relapses, worse laboratory findings. Complicated course of pseudotuberculosis patients with CO may be due to hypersensitization of the body and hepatobiliary disorders resultant from parasitic invasion.

A retrospective chart review was undertaken to collect and report data on the prevalence and characteristics of pain in persons with terminal-stage AIDS. A convenience sample consisting of 50 patient charts at a residential AIDS hospice was utilized. Recently, the annual reduction in the incidence rate of tuberculosis has slowed in Japan. One reason for this trend is believed to be due to an increase in the number of immunocompromised hosts. In our department, we discovered 10 cases of pulmonary tuberculosis among 962 cases of collagenosis, and have analyzed the factors for the development of pulmonary tuberculosis in these patients. In the introduction the authors analyze the classification and incidence of fractures of the Pipkin type. This is a rare injury which develops as a rule in 10% of posterior type dislocations during motor car crashes. The authors present a theoretical review of all therapeutic possibilities in specific types of fractures. The group comprises 17 patients during a follow-up period of 16 years, mean age of the patients 39.6 years. In 82% the cause of the injury was a car accident. Type IV fractures were most frequent, consistent with data in the literature only one type III fracture was recorded.

This study examined the thesis that patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) comprise discrete personality subtypes and that identification of these subtypes may benefit biobehavioral research on CHD. Measures of Negative Affectivity, Social Inhibition, and Self-Deception were used to generate a personality taxonomy through cluster analysis in a sample of 405 men with CHD. Choledochal cysts are uncommon in Zambia, but are frequently misdiagnosed and consequently mistreated. It is recommended that anastomotic drainage of the cyst into the duodenum or jejunum should be done as a first stage procedure on severely sick patients seen in rural hospitals, prior to their transfer to major hospitals where definitive procedure such as end to end anastomosis of the common bile duct or Roux-en Y choledochojejunostomy can be performed.
