In breast cancer, mutations of predisposition genes such as BRCA-1/2 and other genes as yet uncharacterised are manifest in up to 10% of cases. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the interrater reliability of five common signs of eating disorders.
METHODS: Eating disorder patients with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and eating disorders not otherwise specified (ED-NOS), at various stages of recovery, were evaluated for the presence or absence of lanugo hair, acrocyanosis, parotid hypertrophy, hypercarotinemia, and Russell's sign. Patients were examined by two physicians with similar experience and training. Results are analyzed for reliability using the kappa statistic.

Urinary retention resulting from urethral obstruction by a retroverted, gravid uterus is an uncommon disorder that is reported only once in the Emergency Medicine literature. Yet these patients may present in extreme distress and precipitate considerable confusion regarding the cause of and solution to this problem. No study evaluating outcome, risk of complications, or therapy exists. We present two cases that clarify diagnostic and therapeutic controversies and provide a better understanding of what is known about the pathophysiology and treatment alternatives.

Distraction osteogenesis (DO) of facial bones is a recent development in the treatment of pediatric patients. The use of DO in current clinical practice of pediatric reconstructive surgery is primarily limited to severe deformities of the lower jaw, most of which are congenital in nature. In primary care, acute maxillary sinusitis may be diagnosed by clinical examination, ultrasound or radiography.
