Benign tumors of the anterior cranial base may originate from intracranial, cranial, or extracranial sites. Intracranial tumors such as meningiomas may secondarily involve the cranial base and extend into the sinuses or nasal cavity. Bony tumors arising from the cranium include benign fibro-osseous lesions such as osteoma, fibrous dysplasia, and ossifying fibroma. The most common extracranial tumors that may extend to the skull base include angiofibroma and inverted papilloma. Symptoms are nonspecific and diagnosis is often delayed. In most cases, a diagnosis can be established based on the cl

Virtual surgical planning (VSP) has recently been introduced in craniomaxillofacial surgery with the goal of improving efficiency and precision for complex surgical operations. Among many indications, VSP can also be applied for the treatment of congenital and acquired craniofacial defects, including orbital fractures. VSP permits the surgeon to visualize the complex anatomy of craniofacial region, showing the relationship between bone and neurovascular structures. It can be used to design and print using three-dimensional (3D) printing technology and customized surgical models. Additionally,

Infratemporal fossa cellulitis is rare and mostly occurs because of sinusitis and dental procedures. Furthermore, cellulitis caused by iatrogenic foreign bodies is very rare. A 28-year-old woman who had previously undergone cosmetic bimaxillary operation visited our hospital complaining of left facial swelling, oppressive pain, and nasal obstruction since 2 years. She had been attending another clinic, but despite having additional procedures and taking medications, her symptoms persisted. A subsequent operation was performed, during which we found a remnant surgical gauze from the previous op

BACKGROUND: The procedure of reconstruction after the removal of cranial fibrous dysplasia (FD) must be precise to achieve good functional and aesthetic results. Intraoperative modeling of implants is difficult and may cause cosmetic disturbances.
OBJECTIVE: To present our experience with the treatment of cranial FD using preoperative computer-based surgical planning of tumor removal with reconstruction of the cranium with custom-made titanium implants.
METHODS: Four patients underwent surgical treatment for cranial FD over a 2-year period. All patients were male with a mean age of 25.25 yea

BACKGROUND: Repairing orbital wall fractures can result in serious complications, including enophthalmos, diplopia, or even blindness. Especially, surgeons worry about damaging the optic nerve while dissecting the optic canal area. We avoid these complications by using a navigation system that was adapted to stereotactic concept based on three-dimensional imaging of the patient's anatomy. Here, we report 5 cases of orbital wall fracture that were repaired using a navigation system.
METHODS: The Navigation System II (Stryker, Freiburg, Germany) and the iNtellect Cranial Navigation (version 1.1

Reconstruction of heel defects is challenging due to its unique anatomical character. Here, weight-bearing and protective sensations are both of equal importance for a defect to be reconstructed. The medial plantar artery (MPA) flap provides a durable, glabrous and sensate reconstructive option that closely resembles the native heel pad. This is a retrospective observational study where data were collected for operations done between January 2021 and December 2024 in the Department of Burn and Plastic Surgery, Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH), Bangladesh. Fifteen (15) patients who un

Isolated sternal recurrence from ovarian cancer is exceptionally rare, and its optimal surgical management remains poorly defined. In selected patients with a prolonged disease-free interval and a solitary metastatic lesion, radical resection may provide durable local control while preserving chest stability and respiratory function. This video tutorial describes the surgical technique and clinical outcome of segmental sternectomy performed for a single-site sternal recurrence of ovarian cancer occurring after a disease-free interval of 12 years. Following comprehensive multidisciplinary evalu

Objective:To evaluate the feasibility and clinical efficacy of a single-layer radial forearm free flap (RFFF) for through-and-through palatal defects. Methods:The single-layer forearm flap was used to repair 6 cases of perforating palatal defect due to oral malignant tumor. Preoperative Allen test and ultrasound doppler examination were used to judge the forearm vessels. Patients were followed up to evaluate their chewing, swallowing, speech function, surgical outcomes and quality of life. Results:All flaps survived completely (100.0%). At 6 months all patients resumed normal oral intake witho

Ischial pressure ulcer reconstruction requires durable coverage while preserving local donor options for possible recurrence. The inferior gluteal artery perforator (IGAP) flap is a muscle-sparing option, but superthin elevation requires precise knowledge of the superficial fascial plane and the subcutaneous course of the selected perforator. This technical note describes colour Doppler ultrasonography-guided superficial fascial plane mapping before superthin IGAP flap elevation in a 27-year-old paraplegic patient with a chronic left ischial pressure ulcer who presented in 2025 to a tertiary c

BACKGROUND: Chronic ruptures to the distal biceps and triceps tendons of the elbow are rare but clinically relevant injuries that may result in persistent functional impairment if left untreated. Tendon retraction, scarring, and degeneration significantly complicate surgical management and require meticulous diagnostic and therapeutic planning.
OBJECTIVE: This review summarises current evidence on the epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment strategies for chronic ruptures to the tendon of the distal biceps and triceps tendon and aims to provide clinically applicable recommendations.

PURPOSE: The reliable application of the superficial circumflex iliac artery perforator (SCIP) flaps is frequently hindered by significant anatomical variability in its vascular supply. Preoperative mapping through computed tomography angiography (CTA) has become an essential method for visualizing perforator pathways, potentially enhancing the safety and precision of flap harvesting. Nevertheless, discrepancies in imaging protocols and interpretations have restricted the standardization of CTA utilization. This systematic review seeks to assess the consistency and clinical utility of CTA in d

BACKGROUND: Despite advances in neoadjuvant therapies and surgical techniques, abdominoperineal excision of the rectum (APER) is still necessary in a considerable number of cases, often requiring the creation of a permanent colostomy, which can significantly impact a patient's quality of life (QOL). Total anorectal reconstruction (TAR) with dynamic graciloplasty has emerged as a reconstructive option for patients undergoing APER, aiming to restore continence by avoiding a permanent abdominal colostomy and improving quality of life. However, this approach presents several challenges, including

The foot and ankle have a special anatomical structure and bear crucial functions of body such as weight bearing, walking, running, and jumping. High-energy injuries to these areas are complex, posing challenges to clinical tissue reconstruction. Complex foot-ankle tissue defects mostly present as multicompartmental defects involving skin and soft tissue, tendons, bones, and joints, as well as large-area skin and soft tissue defects. We divided the foot and ankle into nine regions based on the anatomical characteristics and physiological functions of different sites. Ten clinical types were th

Delayed tendon injury has been historically treated with several techniques, including staged tendon graft and flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) transfers from neighboring rays. Nevertheless, the use of the flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS) hemi-tendon from neighboring fingers may provide the same results with less donor site morbidity. This article aims to present the safety and effectiveness of the fourth FDS hemi-tendon transfer technique to treat zone I-5th FDP injuries on cadaver specimens, and to describe its in vivo application. In 4 fresh-frozen forearms, the fifth FDP was cut at zon

CASE: We report a 13-year-old female karate athlete with chronic varus instability of the left hallux interphalangeal (IP) joint following injury 16 months prior. Surgical reconstruction was performed using plantaris tendon autograft with biotenodesis screws through a single lateral approach. At 1-year follow-up, the patient had complete resolution of symptoms and returned to competitive karate.
CONCLUSION: Lateral collateral ligament reconstruction using plantaris tendon autograft is an effective treatment option for chronic varus instability of the hallux IP joint, offering minimal donor si

Limb reconstruction has emerged as a unique and increasingly important discipline in modern medicine. Limb reconstruction refers to the systematic restoration of complex pathological conditions resulting from various injuries or diseases-such as tissue defects, infections, and deformities-using a combination of surgical and non-surgical approaches. Its technical framework is primarily based on microsurgery, the Ilizarov technique, cement-induced membrane technique (Masquelet technique), engineered tissue regeneration, soft tissue balancing and dynamic reconstruction, and modern prosthetics, su

INTRODUCTION: Recurrent patellofemoral instability is frequent in adolescents and young adults, often associated with pain, cartilage damage, and functional impairment. While medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction is considered the gold standard, it has limitations in skeletally immature patients and revision settings. Increasing attention has therefore been given to the reconstruction of medial quadriceps tendon–femoral ligament (MQTFL), a complementary stabiliser of the patella as the procedure avoids patellar bone tunnels and may reduce complications. However, current evidence
