Lower frequencies of slow oscillations of the posturographic signals can be removed using high-pass filtering. An experimental model has been developed to determine postural hypotension in chloralose-urethane-pentobarbital (CUP) anesthetized rats. Using this technique, mean arterial pressure, heart rate, and blood pressure compensation to 60 degree tilt were examined in rats treated acutely and chronically with a spectrum of standard antihypertensive agents. This retrospective, consecutive, clinical case series examined the use of topical timolol in the treatment of 5 children with deep, periocular infantile hemangiomas that caused astigmatism, change in head posture, or ptosis. All patients were treated with timolol maleate solution 0.5% twice daily until the lesions had regressed. All 5 children showed regression of the lesion and improvement in amblyogenic risk factors within 2 weeks.

An intact male pied tamarin (Saguinus bicolor) presented with a hunched posture while moving, dysuria, pollakiuria, and hematuria. After diagnostic imaging assessment and prostate biopsy, benign prostatic hyperplasia was diagnosed. Treatments with delmadinone acetate and osaterone caused clinical signs and hematuria to resolve temporarily for a variable period of time. Because of frequent recurrence, elective surgical castration was performed, leading to resolution of the clinical signs.

Platypnoea orthodeoxia is a rare clinical syndrome characterised by dyspnoea and deoxygenation exhibited in upright position with improvement in supine posture. Previously described aetiologies include cardiac (pericardial effusion or constrictive pericarditis), pulmonary (pneumonectomy, emphysema or amiodarone toxicity), abdominal (cirrhosis or ileus) or vascular (abdominal aortic aneurysm) causes. We report an unusual case of platypnoea orthodeoxia associated with patent foramen ovale and partial hepatic resection.

Orthostatic hypotension is encountered frequently in everyday practice. It is often very disabling because of its troublesome symptomalogy. Orthostatic hypotension may be due to several causes and can be easily diagnosed by measuring blood pressure and heart rate after 3 minutes in upright posture. Its treatment comprises in all cases non-pharmacological interventions which can be associated whenever required by medications, in particular midodrine and fludrocortisone.

Three children with equivocal pelviureteric junction obstruction are described. The renal pelves were only slightly dilated and emptied well with posture change or diuresis, but there was disproportionate dilatation of the calices. On direct puncture perfusion of the pelvis there were repeated high pressure contractions which resulted in emptying, but basal pressure remained normal. This condition appears to be analogous to the partially obstructed but compensated bladder.
