An 81-year-old patient with benign prostatic hyperplasia with a history of acute myocardial infarction had undergone Memotherm urethral-stent placement because acute urinary retention 5 years previously. The stent protruded over the bladder neck without epithelialization and had recently become encrusted with vesical calculi. We used a diode laser to cut the stent and simultaneously performed laser prostatectomy. After the procedure, the patient was well and able to void easily.

Glandular hypospadias represents approximately 15% of the hypospadias variants seen. This article will examine common surgical approaches applicable to the child with glandular hypospadias. Hypospadias repairs discussed in this article will include urethromeatoplasty, MAGPI, the GAP procedure, MIV glans plasty, urethral advancement procedure, and parameatal based flap variants, including the Mathieu and Barcat procedures. Because these anomalies are cosmetically less aberrant than more proximal variants, only those surgical techniques which assure a normal-appearing penis should be undertaken.

This paper presents a newly developed simple procedure using overlapping vascularized dorsal dartos subcutaneous flaps to cover the neourethra after hypospadias correction. A 3-year old boy with distal hypospadias underwent the tubularized incised plate urethroplasty using this method. Postoperative complications, which include urethrocutaneous fistula, were not observed, but the glans did exhibit a vertical, slit-like meatus. Covering the neourethra with overlapping dorsal dartos flaps is expected to prevent the development of urethrocutaneous fistula in patients with distal hypospadias.

PURPOSES: Posterior urethral valves (PUV) are the most common cause of mechanical infravesical obstruction in children. It is emphasized that this disorder has broad spectrum of severity, and patients presenting signs and symptoms in neonates or early infancy are at high risks for renal failure. OBJECTIVES: This study evaluates the place of percutaneous nephrostomy (PCN) in neonates with posterior urethral valves (PUV).
MATERIAL AND METHODS: 11 neonates with PUV, 10 of which were diagnosed antenatally, were treated. PCN drainage was performed in 9 cases, prior to endoscopic resection. Six PCN were bilateral and 3 were unilateral, for the following indications: renal failure in 5 cases, severe infection in 2 cases, evaluation of a dilated kidney in 2 cases.
