We investigated the presence of duplication in chromosome 17p11.2 in 4 individuals with sporadic Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT 1) and 1 isolated case where a definite differential diagnosis between CMT 1 and Déjérine-Sottas disease was not achieved. A method is described for the rapid isolation of yeast mitochondrial DNA-directed RNA polymerase. The enzyme obtained had a specific activity of 1.56 nmol UMP incorporated per mg protein in 20 min at 37 degrees C, and is some 95% pure. Two novel bacterial strains, designated as YS3T and YS5T, were isolated from soil collected at Nogo Mountain, Gyeonggi-do, Republic of Korea. Strain YS3T is Gram-positive, aerobic, non-motile and rod-shaped, forming opaque, cream-coloured colonies with smooth surfaces. Vitamin D supports musculoskeletal health, including bone mineral density and skeletal muscle function. Vitamin D₃ (VitD3, cholecalciferol) is an inactive form which requires two enzymatic hydroxylation steps, from VitD₃ to 25-hydroxyvitamin D₃ (25OHD₃, calcifediol) in liver and then to active form 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25(OH)2D3, calcitriol) in kidney. Vitamin D status is determined by circulating 25OHD levels. Compared with VitD3, calcifediol bypasses the hepatic 25-hydroxylation step and is more hydrophilic, resulting in higher bioavailability and less sequestration in adipose tissue.
