BACKGROUND: Previous microarray analysis showed that growth hormone (GH) was significantly upregulated following acoustic trauma in the zebrafish (Danio rerio) ear suggesting that GH may play an important role in the process of auditory hair cell regeneration. CONCLUSIONS: Improved appearance and hearing and increased efficiency are achievable for congenital microbia with defects of external auditory meatus (EAM) and middle ear. First the site of the external auditory meatus (EAM) orifice must be located according to the results of the temporal CT scan, then the auricle can be reconstructed employing the three-stage method. At the third stage, the EAM and middle ear can be reconstructed at the same time.

The objective of the study was to evaluate the in vitro activity of orbifloxacin against Staphylococcus intermedius strains isolated in France from canine skin and ear infections. Cochlear implantation in patients with chronic suppurative otitis media is managed with perioperative antibiotics; however, fungal overgrowth can occur. We present a child who received oral cefdinir and topical ofloxacin (Floxin). After 6 weeks, a fungal (Candida) biofilm was demonstrated on the implant surface. In this clinical setting, an antimicrobial strategy using an oral antifungal to prevent fungal overgrowth is a possibility.
