BACKGROUND AND AIM OF THE WORK: In the best of our knowledge there is not yet in the literature a measurement able to assess post reduction stability of distal radius fractures.
AIM: to study the relationship between our newly introduced Pacetti's line, anatomical reduction of DRFs and post-reduction stability of fractures.
METHODS: Patients/Participants: 230 patients (122men, 108women) who sustained a dorsally displaced distal radius fracture. Close reduction procedures attempted; below elbow cast applied.
FOLLOW-UP: Pacetti's line used on true AP and lateral view xrays after reduction and

BACKGROUND: The locking plate is a useful treatment for lateral clavicle fractures, however, there are limits to the fragment size that can be fixed. The current study aimed to measure the screw angles of three locking plates for lateral clavicle fractures. In addition, to assess the number of screws that can be inserted in different fragment sizes, to elucidate the size limits for locking plate fixation.
METHODS: The following three locking plates were analyzed: the distal clavicle plate [Acumed, LLC, Oregon, the USA], the LCP clavicle plate lateral extension [Depuy Synthes, LLC, PA, the USA

Titanium plats are the gold-standard for fracture fixation. Titanium is considered biocompatible, corrosion resistant with an elasticity-modulus closest to bone. Nonetheless, titanium plates are not always as inherent as hoped. The authors investigated morbidity associated with titanium plates in mandibular fractures. A retrospective study of mandibular fractures treated between 2000 and 2018 using internal-fixation was conducted. Data included age, gender, complications, and location. Predictor-variable was location. Outcome-variable was plate removal. A total of 571 patients were included, 1

Even though the die-punch fragment of the distal radius fracture was described as early as in 1962, its detection may be crucial to select the optimal therapy even nowadays. Typically, the die-punch fragment is located in the lunate fossa. It can, however, also be located in the radial column. The patient with the die-punch fracture of the scaphoid fossa, treated by us with open reduction and plate osteosynthesis from two surgical approaches, is presented in our case report. Key words: die-punch fracture, distal radius, surgical treatment.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to classify the possible indications for a combined approach to distal radius fractures (DRFs) by investigating surgical outcomes of patients treated according to our treatment algorithm.
METHODS: A combined approach was performed in 32 patients. Patients who were thought to need a combined approach were classified into three types according to the combined injuries associated with loss of volar cortical buttresses in DRFs. The classifications included the following: type 1, free intra-articular fragments; type 2, distally migrated dorsal fragments lo

Clavicle fractures are commonly seen in children and young adults. A case of a 30-year-old woman sustaining a clavicle fracture while riding a bike is highlighted. The most common cause is strong fall with the injured arm at one's side, often in contact sports injuries. The clavicle is divided into thirds: medial (proximal), middle (midshaft), and lateral (distal) thirds. Eighty percent of clavicle fractures occur in the middle third of the clavicle, and nearly half of those midshaft fractures are displaced. Goals of initial treatment are to reduce pain and limit motion of the fracture fragmen

BACKGROUND: The bone graft vascularized by the 1,2 intercompartmental supraretinacular artery (1,2 ICSRA) placed on the scaphoid by a dorsal approach is a technique used to treat scaphoid nonunions with avascular necrosis of the proximal pole and without significant bone loss or carpus collapse. We present the results of patients treated with a volar rerouting of the 1,2 ICSRA graft under the tendons of the first extensor compartment to treat more distal scaphoid nonunions than the proximal pole. The aim of this study was to assess the clinical and radiological outcomes of patients operated wi

The purpose of the study was to compare the stability of the plate osteosyntheses of intra-articular calcaneal fractures using various types of a sustentacular screw insertions. A geometrical model of a calcaneal fracture was created. The fracture was fixed with a plate and screws with a uniform distribution. The individual models differed regarding the position of the sustentacular screw. The screw was inserted using three different variants: Model A: into the tip of sustentaculum tali, Model B: under the sustentaculum tali, and Model C: into the inferior peripherial rim of the sustentacular

Osteomyelitis of the calcaneus combined with a pathologic fracture is a rare and difficult presentation for any practicing foot and ankle surgeon. Treatment for achieving an aseptic nonunion involves a variety of steps, including surgical debridement, antibiotic administration, and fracture stabilization. In this case series, we report a novel technique for the treatment of a tongue-type calcaneal fracture in the setting of chronic osteomyelitis using the Biomet JuggerLoc bone-to-bone system for fixation.

BACKGROUND: Cement augmentation has been suggested to increase the stability of screw anchoring in osteoporotic humeral fractures. Initial results are promising but may be jeopardized by cement leakage into the joint and difficult implant removal. Absorbable cement might have advantages in this regard, but it is unclear if the primary stability of both techniques is equivalent to each other. Therefore, this study aimed to compare its primary stability with that of non-absorbable cement augmentation.
METHODS: Nineteen cadaveric humeri with two-part fracture models were treated with locking pla

Distal clavicle fractures are common in patients with shoulder injuries. We retrospectively evaluated the clinical outcomes of a novel fixation technique using a miniature locking plate with a single button in patients with distal clavicle fractures associated with coracoclavicular ligament disruption. The study involved seven patients with distal clavicle fractures with a follow-up period of 12 months. All patients were diagnosed with type IIb fractures according to the Neer classification. The distal clavicle fracture was fixed with a miniature locking plate, and the coracoclavicular ligamen

Our study aimed to compare the clinical and radiographic outcomes of transitional distal tibia fractures treated with K-wire fixation versus screw fixation after open reduction. A retrospective study was performed on all displaced transitional distal tibia fractures that underwent operative fixation. Following open reduction, surgical fixation was performed using either percutaneously inserted 2.0 mm K-wires, or 4.0 mm partially-threaded cannulated cancellous screws. Clinical and radiographic outcomes between the two groups were assessed using the modified Weber score. Other outcome measures a

OBJECTIVES: Proximal femoral plating serves as a good alternative for the fixation of femoral neck fractures, but fixation loss still occurs. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of a hybrid configuration of short- and long-threaded cannulated screws in proximal femoral plating in terms of decreasing varus collapse of femoral neck fractures.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 86 patients with femoral neck fractures who were fixed by proximal femoral plating from January 2015 to June 2019. These patients were divided into two groups according to screw configuration: short- a

Posterior wall acetabulum fractures typically result from high-energy mechanisms and can be associated with various orthopaedic and nonorthopaedic injuries. They range from isolated simple patterns to multifragmentary with or without marginal impaction. Determination of hip stability, which can depend on fragment location, size, and displacement, directs management. Although important in the assessment of posterior wall fractures, CT is unreliable when used to determine stability. The dynamic fluoroscopic examination under anesthesia (EUA) is the benchmark in assessment of hip stability, and f

INTRODUCTION: Lisfranc injuries are rare, often missed, and may cause permanent structural deterioration of tarsometatarsal joint, despite optimal management. Consequently, a Lisfranc injury may lead to disruption of the biomechanics of the normal foot during walking and may alter the plantar pressure distribution, which is essential for proper gait mechanics. Therefore, the main purpose of the study was to specify the dynamic plantar pressure, radiographic and clinical features, after surgically managed Lisfranc injuries.
METHODS: This study was carried out over a period of 10 years and incl

Although the technical details of distal radius fracture fixation in athletes are largely similar to the general population, the issues surrounding the injury, desire to return to sport, and rehabilitation require specialized attention. Athletes are generally healthy, with a drive to recover and must balance the risk of long-term consequences of returning to play too early with the potential loss of scholarship, salary, or opportunities for advancement. Outcomes after nonoperative and operative treatment of distal radius fractures are generally excellent in athletes and return to the same leve

There is no consensus on whether the deltoid ligament must be repaired in ankle fractures. Recent studies have shown better early radiologic results when the deltoid ligament is repaired, but no differences in long term functional outcomes. However, there is evidence suggesting that patients with high fibular fractures or injuries with concomitant syndesmotic instability may benefit from repair. The authors recommend repairing the deltoid ligament complex in bimalleolar equivalent fractures associated with syndesmotic or gross multiligamentous instability as well as in heavier patients with gr
