The effect of long term use of oral contraceptives on glucose tolerance was studied in 133 women. Oral contraceptives were taken for a period between 3 and 12 years. 25 women without any hormone treatment served as a control group. Dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate (DHAS) was administered intravenously to 70 women in the third trimester of pregnancy. By measuring the increase in the concentrations of estrogens in maternal plasma, it was hoped to assess the reserve capacity of the placenta. In normal pregnancies, unconjugated estradiol invariably showed a marked increase within 60 minutes of the injection of DHAS, reaching 174 to 478% above basal levels. In order to assess the analgesic effect of an injectable preparation of ketoprofen, a double-blind comparative study was conducted against a soluble form of acetylsalicylic acid of known efficacy, widely used in the clinic. Only one indication was considered for inclusion in the trial, namely discogenic sciatica. We found no significant statistical difference between these two products, considering the criteria used. The time of onset of effect was, on average, 30 minutes and the mean duration of activity was 4 hours. The two products were well tolerated.

Experiments were conducted on rats with sarcoma-45 and intact ones to study the prospidin-C14 content in the blood, distribution of the drug among the organs and tissues and its elimination from the organism. A dissecting aneurysm of the coronary artery (DACA) associated with cystic medial necrosis was discovered during the necropsy of a 32-year-0ld black man with evidence of intravenous drug abuse. Microscopic examination of the lungs revealed striking angiomatoid conversion of pulmonary arterioles. The cause of death and the possible relationship between the pulmonary vascular lesions and the DACA are discussed.
