Flashbacks and memory phenomena. A comment on "Flashback phenomena--clinical and diagnostic dilemmas".

Alarcon, Dickinson, and Dohn (J. Nerv. Ment. Dis., 170: 217-223, 1982) recently reviewed the phenomenon of memory flashback following use of hallucinogenic drugs. They point out that while there are a considerable number of explanations concerning the flashback mechanism, little is known about the real causes. This paper examines flashback following drug ingestion in the light of other memory phenomena concerned with "cued retrieval" effects. Such phenomena may include dream recall, delayed post-traumatic stress, mood influence on memory, and drug effects on memory. Rather than view flashbacks

The Association of Mental Health Symptoms to Post-Traumatic Nightmares Among Treatment Seeking Active Duty Service Members.

INTRODUCTION: Posttraumatic nightmares (PTNs) are common among service members with a history of combat or mission-related trauma and are associated with decreased well-being. Unfortunately, beyond establishing an association between mental health symptoms and PTNs, the existing literature fails to provide a more comprehensive understanding of factors associated with PTNs. The effectiveness of current recommended treatments is frequently debated, with the literature varying in levels of support. Treatment of PTN is complicated, given their association with a number of mental health difficultie

Identifying risk factors for vasculogenic etiology in patients with erectile dysfunction based on clinical features and machine learning.

BACKGROUND: Vasculogenic erectile dysfunction (ED) is an important subtype of organic ED, and its development and progression are closely related to endocrine, metabolic, and psychological factors. Identifying risk factors for vasculogenic ED may facilitate early recognition and targeted intervention. METHODS: This study included 519 patients diagnosed with ED using penile color Doppler duplex ultrasonography (CDDU) as the gold standard. Clinical and laboratory indicators were collected. Feature selection was strictly performed within the training set using univariate logistic regression, the

Trait mindfulness and competitive-race flow in swimmers: the mediating role of attentional control.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Mindfulness training benefits athletes' psychological states and performance, but how mindfulness translates into competitive experience remains unclear. This study examines whether attentional control is the psychological pathway from trait mindfulness to race flow in competitive swimmers, and whether this pathway extends to objective pacing accuracy. METHODS: A prospective, multi-wave observational design measured trait mindfulness (T1), attentional control (T1/T2), and race flow (post-race) at separate time points. The main analysis included 280 adult swimmers who h

Biopsychosocial barriers and facilitators in the everyday lives of patients with restless legs syndrome: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a common condition affecting 3% of the world's population. Pharmacological treatments do not cure RLS, and symptoms substantially affect everyday life. However, knowledge of biopsychosocial (BPS) factors influencing patients' everyday lives remains limited. This study aimed to explore and describe BPS barriers and facilitators influencing everyday life among patients with RLS. METHODS: A deductive, descriptive qualitative design grounded in the BPS model was employed. Semi-structured telephone interviews were conducted with 28 strategically selected

Local Construction Employment and Binge Drinking Among US Adults in Their Early 30s: Insights From a Path Analysis.

OBJECTIVE: Construction workers face elevated risks of alcohol misuse-especially binge drinking-due to physically demanding labor, long hours, and limited paid vacation. At the same time, emerging evidence suggests that a larger local construction sector may have protective community-level effects on alcohol and other drug outcomes. This study examines how both county-level construction job share and individual employment in construction relate to residents' binge-drinking behaviors, incorporating individual and work-related mediators. METHODS: Using data from the National Longitudinal Survey

Building psychological resources for green organizational citizenship behavior: a broaden-and-build perspective on empowerment, environmental passion, and leaders' emotional intelligence.

Green organizational citizenship behavior is essential for translating corporate sustainability strategies into everyday work practices. Although green transformational leadership has been widely examined as an antecedent of employee green behavior, less is known about why it encourages employees to go beyond formal job duties and when this effect becomes stronger. Drawing on Broaden-and-Build Theory, this study develops a psychological resource model linking team-level green transformational leadership to green organizational citizenship behavior through employees' cognitive-motivational and

Exercise Participation Among Physically Active Adults: A Multidimensional Analysis of Demographic, Anthropometric, Personality, and Behavioral Factors.

Regular participation in recreational physical activity is a key determinant of population health, yet behavioral heterogeneity across adults remains insufficiently understood. This study examined how demographic, anthropometric, and psychological characteristics relate to exercise type (H1), weekly frequency (H2), daily duration (H3), motivational regulation (H4), personality-based differences in exercise modality (H5), and multidimensional behavioral clustering (H6) within a large sample of physically active recreationally active adults. A total of 1564 participants (age: M = 33.65, SD = 9.8

Perfectionism, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, and health-thinness-cleanliness motivations as primary correlates of orthorexia nervosa.

PURPOSE: Orthorexia Nervosa (ON) is characterized by an obsessive preoccupation with eating foods perceived as healthy or clean. Despite growing research interest, risk factors and underlying motivations for ON remain poorly understood. This study examined demographic factors, psychological correlates, and dietary motivations associated with ON symptomatology, building on McComb and Mills' (2019) theoretical model. METHODS: Participants (N = 697) completed validated measures of ON, alongside assessments of demographic factors (age, gender, socioeconomic status, dietary means), psychological v

Risk and resilience from early to middle childhood in three-generation families: Grandmother coresidence stability matters.

Coresidential three-generation families are becoming increasingly prevalent, but the contribution of grandparent coresidence stability during early childhood is poorly understood. Informed by the process-person-context-time theory, this study links grandmothers' behavioral health risk and mothers' psychopathology to child psychopathology (i.e., total internalizing and externalizing problems). We hypothesized mediation pathways through maternal psychological and physical aggression and tested grandmother coresidential stability as a moderator. A nationally representative sample of three-generat

Online-CBT for endometriosis: Exploring the acceptability and impact of the Ed.iTh program.

THEORETICAL BACKGROUND: Psychological distress significantly contributes to impairment in endometriosis. However, patients face systemic barriers to psychological support, including long waiting times, stigma, and a lack of endometriosis-specific expertise. Internet-based CBT (iCBT) offers a promising alternative, yet its acceptability and perceived helpfulness in addressing the psychological needs of endometriosis patients remains unexplored. AIM: This study aimed to evaluate users' experiences with Ed.iTh, the first therapist-guided iCBT program developed for individuals with endometriosis.
