Construction and validation of a nomogram for predicting cancer-specific survival in middle-aged patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma: A SEER-based study.

Hepatocellular carcinoma is the predominant form of primary liver cancer and is the leading cause of cancer-related death. The aim of this study was to construct a nomogram to predict cancer-specific survival (CSS) in middle-aged patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. Clinical data were downloaded from the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database for middle-aged patients diagnosed with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (AJCC stage III and IV) from 2000 to 2019. The patients were randomized in a 7:3 ratio into training cohort and validation cohort. Univariate and mul

Relative Tumour Volume in Canine Oral Melanoma Staging and Prognosis.

Melanoma is one of the most common canine oral malignant tumours and is highly aggressive and metastatic, even at the early stages of development. Surgery relies on wide excision of the primary tumour and regional lymphadenectomy, with or without adjuvant therapy. Tumour location and size are important when considering staging, which ultimately affects the curative intent of surgery. Nevertheless, absolute tumour volume (TV) is not related to the vast phenotypic variability within canine breeds. This study aimed to determine the cutoff values of two ratios-tumour-to-head volume (THR) and tumou

Acquisition and Handling of Endobronchial Ultrasound Transbronchial Needle Samples: An American College of Chest Physicians Clinical Practice Guideline.

BACKGROUND: Endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) has become the standard for initial lung cancer diagnosis and staging. Previous guidelines have generally focused on the "when" and "how" of EBUS-TBNA; however, little guidance is available on handling and processing specimens during and after acquisition to help optimize both diagnostic yield and tissue integrity for ancillary studies. This document examines the available literature on EBUS-TBNA specimen processing and handling. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: Rigorous methodology was applied to provide a trustworthy

BAUSSS biomarker improves melanoma survival risk assessment.

BACKGROUND: The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) method of staging melanoma is dated and inaccurate. It ignores important prognostic melanoma features, especially the patient's age. BAUSSS is more accurate in determining survival risk for primary cutaneous melanoma patients who have no clinical or imaging evidence of nodal or distant metastases. BAUSSS is an algorithm incorporating analysis of Breslow thickness, Age, Ulceration, Subtype of melanoma, Sex and Site. These are the six features from the patient history along with the details from the melanoma pathology report that are most
