The activity of oestrogen-induced peroxidase in sections along the uterus of normal and mammary tumour-bearing adult rats was measured. In conscious rats subjected to endotoxic shock, thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH) is shown to produce a rapid increase in cardiovascular variables and respiratory rates at intravenous doses between 0.20 and 6.34 mg/kg. Moreover, these doses of TRH significantly improve survival following endotoxemia. The absence of an effect of TRH upon analgesic latencies, combined with its demonstrated efficacy in reversing shock, suggest that it may have therapeutic advantage over the opiate antagonist naloxone.

The relative RNA-content of liver cell nuclei from histological slides of rat liver was determined by automatical microscope picture analysis. The slides were stained with Gallocyanin-Chromealum. Extinction measurements are made before and after perchloracid extraction of RNA for the same slide. The changes of extinction measurements caused by the changes of slide thickness and of tissue inhomogeneity could be lowered using this method.

The effects of sex steroid hormones on the development changes of carbamoylphosphate synthase and arginase activity, and DNA content in rat liver were investigated. After birth, administration of estradiol causes an increase in carbamoylphosphate synthase and arginase activity at high dosages only. Experiments were designed to determine if following injection of [3H]uridine into the lumbar spinal cord of the rat, [3H]RNA could be demonstrated within axons of the sciatic nerve, and if 4S RNA is the predominant RNA species present in these axons.
