BACKGROUND: Heartworm infection is a serious cause of both morbidity and mortality in canids. Current guidelines from professional bodies recommend annual testing using both molecular (ELISA/PCR/Lateral Flow) and microscopic (detection of microfilariae in blood) testing. The inconvenience of the latter, however, presents a barrier to some clinicians towards adherence to these guidelines. PURPOSE: Conventional static visual acuity testing profoundly underestimates the impact of infantile nystagmus on functional vision. The slow-to-see phenomenon explains why many patients with nystagmus perform well in non-time restricted acuity tests but experience difficulty in certain situations. This is often observed by parents when their child struggles to recognise familiar faces in crowded scenes. A test measuring more than visual acuity could permit a more real-world assessment of visual impact and provide a robust outcome measure for clinical trials.

In recent decades, hundreds of private art collectors have opened museum spaces, which they largely finance and control themselves. While such initiatives have been criticized as conspicuous consumption or vanity projects, one public benefit claimed is the display of new artistic perspectives: Due to their strong personal vision and independence, private museums have been argued (including by private museum founders themselves) to showcase underexposed artists and provide artistic innovation. We test this proposition with large-scale exhibition and auction data using Relational Event Modeling.
