BACKGROUND: New techniques for diagnostics and therapy in dermatology are becoming increasingly non-invasive, among which confocal laser-scanning microscopy (CLSM) is the most prevalent. It allows visualization of cellular structures of the skin up to a depth of 300 microm in vivo. Until now, most studies have been conducted on pathologically altered skin, mostly oncologic lesions. We now present a detailed analysis of capillaries located in the upper dermal papillae.

Laser surgery in narrow luminal cavities can lead to venous air embolism (VAE) due to high pressure or high flow clearing/cooling systems. We report the first case of initially misdiagnosed VAE during endonasal CO(2) laser surgery. AIMS: To compare the efficacy of pneumatic trabeculoplasty (PNT) and argon laser trabeculoplasty (ALT) in primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) uncontrolled with two topical therapies.
METHODS: In a randomized, prospective clinical study, 32 patients received in 1 eye PNT or ALT.

PURPOSE: To report a case of a topiramate-induced bilateral acute angle closure that was treated successfully by argon laser peripheral iridoplasty (ALPI).

PURPOSE: To report 4 cases of flap margin-related corneal ulcer that developed 5 years after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) procedures.

A 52-year-old man had uneventful bilateral myopic laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) with planned monovision. Three months later, the left eye was retreated to improve the near vision. On postoperative day 1, the uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) was 0.95 and the patient reported mild ocular pain. Stage 2 diffuse lamellar keratitis was observed. Despite hourly prednisolone instillation, the UDVA decreased to 0.1 and central flap necrosis syndrome was diagnosed. The flap was lifted and stromal bed irrigation performed. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the various factors that influencing the flap thickness after laser operation in situ keratomileusis (LASIK).
METHODS: 369 LASIK eyes (192 cases; among them, 15 patients for surgery monocular) with M2 130 microkeratome heads, grouped by left or right eye were analyzed by Chi-square test and logistic regression analysis based on age, sex, occupation, family history of myopia and ophthalmologic examination results before and after LASIK. A female patient, 51 years old, complaint of painful swelling on the anatomical area of the upper left lateral incisor. The diagnosis of radicular cyst was confirmed histo-pathologically.
