The CDKN2A gene has been implicated in cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM) in about 40% of families with linkage to chromosome 9p21, while a small proportion of families have mutations in the CDK4 gene. In order to estimate the importance of these genes in the predisposition to CMM in Spanish families and patients we have analysed, by SSCA, a total of 56 subjects belonging to 34 CMM families, and nine patients with multiple CMM and other neoplasia. The frequency with which malignant melanomas arise in association with preexisting melanocytic nevi has been studied extensively. We opted to evaluate new aspects of this association. In particular, we addressed the relative proportions of acquired versus congenital nevi involved and categorized the acquired nevi according to morphological type. 23 cases of flexible retrograde nephroscopy system for undiagnosed hematuria or filling defect are reviewed. The introduction was carried out by combining hydraulic dilation, rigid ureterorenoscopy and a working sheath. The indications were merely diagnostic (filling defects and/or haematuria). Not only ae cardiac hibernomas rare, ante-mortem diagnosis is poor, due to the clinical and radiological similarity with other intracardiac masses. Furthermore, cardiac hibernomas can be asymptomatic and thus escape detection with imaging studies. We present a case of an 81-year-old woman who died as a result of pulmonary tumor embolism. This unusual case highlights the necessity for clinicians and pathologists to be familiar with intra-cardiac neoplasms.
