Chlamydia trachomatis is the micro-organism causing the most common sexually transmitted disease in the UK and Europe. The majority of female infections are asymptomatic and recognized sequelae include pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility, and ectopic pregnancy. There have been no previous reports of photosensitivity following photoallergy to airborne olaquindox in a large group. 15 pig breeders, with photo-distributed dermatitis related to olaquindox dust, were investigated to study the nature, promoting factors, and course of this disease. Minimal erythema doses for UVA and UVB were established before photopatch testing and at intervals thereafter. All patients presented with olaquindox-induced photoallergy. Fifteen NHS occupational health departments from the Wessex and Oxford regions took part in an audit of the management of sharps injuries and contamination incidents. Data were collected prospectively for a series of 1102 incidents notified over a nine-month period. In this study we evaluated the usefulness of ferruginous bodies (FB) quantification in lung digest and histologic sections from 40 patients with a history of exposure to inorganic dusts. The patients were matched with 40 cases without occupational exposure. The samples of peripheral lung tissue were digested and all FB were quantified. Lung sections were also evaluated in order to confirm the presence of FB. The concentrations of FB in the patients were higher than the controls (Wilcoxon test, p < 0.001). Q fever was diagnosed in 443 patients in Northern Ireland between 1962 and 1989. From 1986 onwards there was an increase, which peaked in 1989 with 107 cases of whom 47 were infected in Ballycastle, Co Antrim. There were three outbreaks and 21 clusters of patients with Q fever. Forty-two GH deficient patients (14 isolated GH deficiency (IGHD), 28 multiple pituitary hormone deficiencies (MPHD), 23 males and 19 females) were evaluated after termination of hGH therapy and achievement of final height. The urinary testosterone excretion in 55 patients with Klinefelter's syndrome was determined by gas-chromatographic methods. BACKGROUND: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a derangement of mood control with involuntary, emotionally fraught recollections that may follow deep psychological trauma in susceptible individuals.
