The survival of total hip arthroplasty is mainly determined by the loosening of implants. Wear particles generated at the articular contact of head and cup are engulfed by macrophages. These activated macrophages induce the production of RANKL, leading to proliferation and activation of osteoclasts resulting in osteolysis around the hip implant. Higher activity leads to increased particles production, which explains the lower survival rate of total hip arthroplasties in young patients compared to older patients. AIM: To determine whether the insertion of more than one localization wire for larger areas of malignant microcalcification reduces the need for re-excision.
METHOD: This is a retrospective study of 101 cases of malignant calcifications preoperatively marked by one or more wires. Surgical and histopathology data were obtained from hospital records. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the efficacy and possible short-term and medium-term complications of vaginal prosthetic surgery with transobturator fixation to treat prolapse and stress urinary incontinence (SUI) that are often associated in a single operation.

Medialization laryngoplasty has become the new gold standard for the permanent management of patients with vocal fold paralysis and paresis. This article reviews the conceptual developments of the diagnosis and management of patients with vocal fold paresis and paralysis. We identify the specifics of operative decision-making as well as surgical complications associated with medializationlaryngoplasty. The role of revision surgery is detailed. We suggest a standardized evaluation using both objective and subjective data for analysis of surgical outcomes.
