Sarcomatoid squamous cell carcinoma of the mandible: Radiologic-pathologic correlation and diagnostic pitfalls of an aggressive osteolytic lesion.

Sarcomatoid squamous cell carcinoma (SSCC) of the mandible is an exceptionally rare and highly aggressive malignancy characterized by biphasic epithelial and mesenchymal differentiation. Its unusual presentation and overlapping imaging features with other odontogenic and primary bone tumors make diagnosis particularly challenging. Radiologic-pathologic correlation is therefore essential for accurate identification. We report the case of a 60-year-old woman presenting with rapidly progressive right mandibular swelling. Computed tomography (CT) demonstrated an ill-defined, aggressive osteolytic

Classification of maxillary sinus floor contours and mucosal thickening: a CBCT-based analysis.

BACKGROUND: The maxillary sinus is a pyramid-shaped cavity located within the facial skull. Comprehensive knowledge of its anatomy and anatomical variations is essential for surgical procedures in the posterior maxilla. Accurate radiological evaluation is therefore critical. This study aims to classify maxillary sinus floor morphology and assess the prevalence of maxillary sinus mucosal thickening in a Turkish subpopulation. METHODS: Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images from 203 patients were analyzed. Sinus floor contours were classified as narrow, tapered, ovoid, square, or irregular

Open Mesh Repair of a Primary Grynfelt-Lesshaft Hernia: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Grynfelt-Lesshaft hernias are extremely rare posterolateral abdominal wall defects, with a nonspecific clinical presentation that often leads to misdiagnosis or delayed recognition; hence, a high index of suspicion and proper imaging are necessary. A 71-year-old woman presented with a gradually increasing swelling over the left lumbar region for three months. On examination, there was a soft, reducible, nontender swelling in the left posterolateral lumbar region, which increased after performing Valsalva's maneuver. Ultrasound of the abdomen revealed a 4 cm defect in the left superior lumbar t

Plate fixation strategies for fibular reconstruction following segmental mandibulectomy: A comparative study of double-barrel and single-barrel techniques.

PURPOSE: Mandibular defects following oncological resection present significant aesthetic and functional challenges due to the loss of bone and soft tissue. Immediate reconstruction is crucial to prevent complications such as malocclusion, mandibular deviation, temporomandibular joint dysfunction, and impaired mastication, swallowing, and speech. Although the fibula flap is widely used, its limited vertical height complicates alveolar arch restoration in dentate mandibles. The double-barrel fibula flap addresses this limitation; however, the biomechanical stability of various fixation methods

Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor of the Pancreas: A Case Report and Updated Review of Related Literature.

Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs) are rare soft tissue sarcomas with poor prognosis due to their high recurrence rates. The prevalence of MPNST in the general population is 0.001%, with tumors arising from the retroperitoneum accounting for only 1% of all MPNSTs. In this report, we present a case of a 59-year-old male with pancreatic MPNST. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first documented case of pancreatic MPNST in the Philippines. The patient initially presented with a 3-month history of abdominal pain, weight loss, and anorexia. On abdominal computed tomography (CT) s

Report of a case of renal hilum Castleman disease complicated with Paget's disease of the breast.

Renal hilar Castleman disease is a rare lymphoproliferative disorder characterized by non-specific radiological manifestations. It is easily misdiagnosed as primary renal or adrenal malignant tumors in clinical practice, which may consequently lead to unnecessary radical nephrectomy. A 51-year-old female with a history of right breast cancer treated with mastectomy and adjuvant endocrine therapy 7 years prior presented with right nipple erosion. Biopsy confirmed Paget's disease, and preoperative staging with contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) incidentally revealed a solitary soft-tissu

Perianal pathology beyond fistulizing disease: spectrum of MRI findings and diagnostic pitfalls.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the perianal region is frequently performed in the context of fistulizing disease; however, a broad spectrum of non-fistulizing conditions may also affect this region. A wide variety of inflammatory, infectious, vascular, cystic, and neoplastic conditions, as well as anatomical variants and post-surgical changes, may involve the perianal region and often present with overlapping or nonspecific clinical manifestations.MRI, owing to its superior soft tissue contrast and multiplanar capability, plays a central role in the evaluation of perianal pathology. Massive intestinal hemorrhage due to primary iliac artery-jejunal fistula: a rare pediatric case of emergency surgery.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Gastrointestinal (GI) hemorrhage due to arterio-enteric fistula (AEF) is exceedingly rare. In adults, reported cases are often secondary to prior vascular surgery or underlying vasculitic disorders. In children, reports of secondary AEFs are scarce, and instances of primary AEF are exceptionally rare. CASE PRESENTATION: A 17-month-old boy was admitted with 1 day of melena. On examination, he was pale and tachycardic, with a soft abdomen. The hemoglobin was 6.3 g/dl, with a normal coagulation profile and platelet count. After transfusion of 10 ml/kg packed red bloo

Rapidly progressive angiomatous epulis: How to differentiate a benign gingival lesion from malignancy?

Angiomatous epulis, also known as vascular epulis or gingival pyogenic granuloma, is a benign reactive gingival lesion characterized by marked capillary proliferation. It typically develops in response to chronic local irritation, trauma, inflammatory stimuli, or hormonal influences. Clinically, it presents as a rapidly growing erythematous to violaceous gingival mass with a marked tendency to bleed, which may mimic malignant gingival tumors and raise diagnostic concern. Although the diagnosis is primarily based on clinicopathological correlation, imaging plays an important complementary role.

[Imaging assessment and treatment of Charcot arthropathy of the shoulder assisted by NGH classification].

Charcot arthropathy of the shoulder is a rare destructive joint disorder that is most commonly secondary to syringomyelia and often leads to osteolysis of the shoulder joint and severe upper limb dysfunction. The diagnostic and therapeutic challenges of this condition lie not merely in identifying joint destruction, but in the nonspecific nature of its early clinical manifestations, which may mimic infection, tumor, or inflammatory arthropathy. In addition, the extent of bone destruction in the glenoid and humeral head may vary considerably, making conventional imaging descriptions insufficien

Lost in the Woods: A Case Report of a Radiolucent Wooden Foreign Body in a Child After Negative CT, Detected on Repeat Ultrasound.

Retained soft-tissue foreign bodies are a common but often missed complication of traumatic wounds, particularly when composed of radiolucent materials such as wood, which can evade detection on standard imaging. Although radiography and computed tomography (CT) are highly sensitive for radiopaque objects, they may fail to identify organic foreign bodies. This makes timely diagnosis challenging and underscores the importance of ultrasound when the mechanism suggests wood. A previously healthy five-year-old boy presented to a community emergency department after sustaining a puncture wound to t

Fatal Injuries Caused by Falling Trees: Correlation Between Postmortem Computed Tomography and Forensic Autopsy Findings in Eight Cases.

Falling trees and large branches can result in severe blunt trauma; however, detailed correlations between postmortem computed tomography (PMCT) and forensic autopsy findings in such deaths remain limited. We retrospectively analysed eight consecutive deaths occurring between 2012 and 2025 in which impact or compression by a tree trunk or large branch constituted the primary traumatic event and in which both PMCT and complete forensic autopsy were performed. Thin-slice PMCT of the head and trunk was obtained using standard brain, soft-tissue, lung, and bone windows, supplemented by a gas-optim

Ranula vs. Atypical Sublingual Branchial Cleft Cyst: A Case Report.

Congenital cystic lesions in the floor of the mouth in infants present significant diagnostic challenges owing to overlapping clinical and radiological features. We report a rare case of a one-year-old boy with a gradually enlarging, painless left sublingual swelling noticed since birth. Clinical examination revealed a soft, fluctuant 3 × 4 cm mass that did not move with deglutition or tongue protrusion, along with a small midline submental dimple. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) showed a well-defined, non-enhancing cystic lesion (4.1 × 2.1 × 3.9 cm) in the left sublingual space,
