PURPOSE: Unicoronal synostosis (UCS) remains one of the most difficult craniofacial conditions to treat. This review attempts to consolidate all existing literature from the past 25 years that has investigated surgical treatment of nonsyndromic UCS. Additional attention is paid to specific areas of controversy regarding surgical management and evaluation of UCS: outcomes of fronto-orbital advancement (FOA) versus endoscopic strip craniectomy (ESC), emergence of spring-associated cranioplasty for craniosynostosis, and morphologic assessment metrics.
METHODS: A literature search from 1992 to 20

The surgical management of rotator cuff (RC) tears has progressed considerably in recent decades. Arthroscopic procedures now represent the mainstay of contemporary treatment approaches. The success of repair is predicated upon the achievement of a secure, durable repair that promotes tendon-to-bone healing. Both single and double row (DR) suture anchor configurations have been described to achieve stable fixation. Although consensus is lacking with regard to the clinical superiority of one configuration over another, trends in the literature suggest that DR repairs may optimize the likelihood

Isolated orbital wall fractures account for 4% to 16% of all facial fractures. Even a modest change in the position of the bony walls can have a significant impact on orbital volume and globe position. Alloplastic materials or autogenous bone grafts such as the antral maxillary wall can be used to reconstruct small- to medium-size orbital fractures. The main advantage of an antral wall graft is the intraoral approach with minimal morbidity. Nine patients underwent repair of orbital floor fractures using the extraoral and the intraoral antral wall approach. The patients underwent preoperative c

Pathologic fractures of the distal femur caused by bone metastases are not as common as those in the proximal femur but provide great difficulty to adequately treat. This systematic review shows that insufficient literature exists to draw clinically relevant conclusions for essential questions, such as "what factors indicate an endoprosthetic reconstruction for distal femur pathologic fractures?" Due to paucity of literature in the systematic review, a current concepts review (including treatment flowchart), based on instructional reviews and experience, was also performed.

INTRODUCTION: Craniofacial clefts are unusual. Perioral clefts that are discussed in the literature include cleft lip and cleft palate is more common. Midline mandibular and lower lip clefts are rare. Lateral lower lip cleft with only soft tissue involvement is so rare that it has not been reported until now.
CLINICAL REPORT: A 44-month-old girl with a 1-cm-length cleft on the lateral side of the lower lip 8 mm medial to the commissure in lateral one-third of the lower lip referred to the authors' clinic. Repair of the lip consisted of excision of excess mucosa, muscle repair, and 2 z plastie

Reconstruction of soft tissue defects following tumor ablation procedures in the trunk and extremities can challenge the microsurgeon. The goal is not just to provide adequate soft tissue coverage but also to restore form and function and minimize donor site morbidity. Although the principles of the reconstructive ladder still apply in the trunk and extremities, free tissue transfer is used in many cases to optimally restore form and function. Microsurgery has changed the practice in soft tissue tumors, and amputation is less frequently necessary.

BACKGROUND: The ideal goal of periodontal therapy is regeneration of the lost periodontium. However regeneration of the lost interdental papilla has been elusive. Therefore the ability of rebuilding lost papillae in the maxillary segment has become one of the major challenges in periodontal plastic surgery.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY: To evaluate the success and predictability of surgical technique using a sub epithelial connective tissue graft interposed in a coronally displaced flap to reconstruct the lost interdental papillae.
METHODS: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the success and

Open reconstructive upper airway surgery for laryngotracheal stenosis (LTS), whether for subglottic or tracheal stenosis, constitutes a group of complex approaches. LTS requiring open reconstruction is overall rare and primarily performed at tertiary centres. This poses an obvious challenge for the acquisition and maintenance of surgical skills for this group of complex approaches. In this context, animal models provide a unique opportunity for open reconstructive airway surgery training. Such models ought to take into consideration ethical aspects, be easily available and easy to maintain, an

Sagittal craniosynostosis remains the most common type of isolated craniosynostosis, accounting for nearly half of all nonsyndromic cases. The clinical diagnosis is typically made on the basis of a scaphocephalic head shape and is confirmed by computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging. The current review examines the major surgical options for correction of isolated sagittal craniosynostosis, including their complications and short- and long-term outcomes. Reconstructive techniques have benefited from advances in perioperative anesthesia monitoring and improved safety of blood transfus

We report our technique for split peroneus brevis lateral ankle stabilization using the modified rolling hitch for tendon graft fixation. Applying the modified rolling hitch for tendon grasping in this procedure was useful, and it could decrease the surgical time and avoid the tendon injury caused by the needle.

BACKGROUND: Mirror foot is a rare anomaly and limited long term follow-up information is available.
METHODS: Seven years after operation a mirror foot patient returned with foot complaints and was evaluated using radiographs and clinical examination. A systematic literature search was conducted to study foot complaints in mirror feet.
RESULTS: Different origins of foot pain were considered in our patient; tibia length difference, deformed talus and accessory osseous structures in the tarsal region. Literature search resulted in 118 mirror feet. Based on cases reporting osseous structures, 74

Medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction for patellofemoral instability is a common procedure. Although MPFL reconstruction is a successful procedure in terms of return to normal life or sports, revision cases are challenging due to previous holes into the patella or implants placed in the anatomical femoral insertion site. In this technical note, the use of a partial quadriceps tendon transfer to the adductor magnus tendon is presented as a good solution for revision cases to avoid the use of implants, bone drilling, use of allografts, or two-stage surgical procedures. In addition

UNLABELLED: Here we describe a modified open technique for the repair of a ruptured Achilles tendon using multiple looped sutures with the creation of interdigitating tendon stumps maximizing surface area for suture application as well as allowing for significant tissue overlay. This technique produces a high strength repair that is useful in cases of extensive degeneration or poor-quality tissue. Degenerative tissue may be encountered with chronic ruptures or failed nonoperative treatment, as well as those ruptures that occur at the proximal myotendinous junction. We present 2 cases in which

BACKGROUND: To reduce complications associated with conventional pterional craniotomy, a transsylvian keyhole approach for unruptured small anterior circulation aneurysms is proposed.
METHODS: A 7-cm linear scalp incision is made along the hairline, beginning at the zygoma, followed by minimal temporal muscle dissection. Two burr holes are drilled out at McCarty's point and the temporal bone, and a 3-cm equilateral triangle bone flap is made, whose apex is located above the sylvian point. After the sphenoid ridge is drilled off, aneurysms are exposed and clipped with conventional microsurgica

Vascularized osteochondral flaps have been described for use in reconstruction of the wrist, providing the benefits of osteochondral grafts in addition to the benefit of osseous and subchondral perfusion via the microvascular pedicle. Various harvest sites have been described including the medial and lateral femoral trochlea and the proximal third metatarsal. The reconstructed surfaces described include the cartilage surfaces of the scaphoid, lunate, capitate and radius. The ability to transfer analogous osteochondral surfaces poses the possibility for new motion-preserving alternatives for di
