Distortion sensing of off-axis vortex beams enabled by a differentiable neural model.

Adaptive optics (AO) can mitigate optical aberrations in vortex beams. However, the vortex phase structure interferes with retrieving true aberrations, complicating AO correction. Existing methods often rely on known vortex characteristics or additional techniques to bypass phase interference, increasing system complexity and limiting applicability. Additionally, off-axis singularities caused by misalignments inherently pose challenges but are often overlooked. This work focuses on analyzing distorted vortex slope data measured by the Shack-Hartmann Wavefront Sensor, a widely used technique in

rtmsEcho: An Open-Source R Package for Automated Analysis of Acoustic Ejection Mass Spectrometry Data.

Mass spectrometry (MS) is a well-established technology in biological research, enabling the sensitive and precise quantitative analysis of complex samples. While traditional LC-MS systems provide robust performance for targeted analyses, their reliance on chromatographic separation limits throughput, rendering large-scale studies inefficient. The emergence of Acoustic Ejection Mass Spectrometry (AEMS) has revolutionized high-throughput workflows by eliminating chromatography and enabling direct nanoliter-scale sampling, achieving hundreds to thousands of measurements per hour. However, AEMS's

Versatile phosphonium-catechol dispersant for inorganic nanoparticle stability across diverse media and manufacturing processes.

Inorganic nanoparticles (NPs) have significant potential for various applications; however, achieving stable dispersion in organic media and polymers remains a key challenge for their industrial use. We developed a novel dispersant, tributyl(3-((3,4-dihydroxyphenylamino)-3-oxopropyl)phosphonium chloride) (TPC), which contains a catechol group for strong NPs binding and a phosphonium chloride moiety for effective dispersion. The versatility of TPC was demonstrated by stabilizing TiO₂, Fe₂O₃, and ZnO NPs in methanol using bead milling, as confirmed by TGA, DLS, zeta potential, and TEM analyses.

Pediatric Cardiovascular Multiscale Modeling using a Functional Mock-up Interface.

PURPOSE: Computational models of the cardiovascular system continue to increase in complexity. As more elements of the physiology are captured in multiscale models, there is a need to efficiently integrate subsystems. The objective of this study is to demonstrate the effectiveness of a coupling methodology, called functional mock-up interface (FMI), as applied to multiscale cardiovascular modeling. METHODS: The multiscale model is composed of two subsystems: a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model coupled to a lumped parameter model (LPM). The LPM is packaged using the FMI standard and imp

Gas-Phase Synthesis of Germanium Monosulfide (GeS, X1Σ+) via the Elementary Reaction of Atomic Germanium (Ge, 3P) with Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S, X1A1).

Germanium belongs to the carbon group in the periodic table; however, its chemical behavior sometimes differs from that of carbon, defying the isoelectronic rule proposed by Langmuir. One notable example is germanium monosulfide (GeS, X1Σ+), where germanium exhibits remarkable stability in the +II oxidation state, unlike carbon in its monosulfide form. Germanium monosulfide (GeS, X1Σ+) is a promising material, with applications ranging from optoelectronic devices to highly efficient semiconductors. Here, we report on the gas phase synthesis of germanium monosulfide (GeS) through the elementary

Activated cancer-associated fibroblasts correlate with poor survival and decreased lymphocyte infiltration in infiltrative type distal cholangiocarcinoma.

Cancer-associated fibroblasts promote tumor progression through growth facilitation, invasion, and immune evasion. This study investigated the impact of activated cancer-associated fibroblasts (aCAFs) on survival outcomes, immune response, and molecular pathways in distal bile duct (DBD) cancer. We analyzed 469 patients (418 from our cohort and 51 from The Cancer Genome Atlas) with DBD adenocarcinoma. aCAFs were evaluated using hematoxylin and eosin staining. We developed a machine learning-based survival prediction model incorporating aCAFs and clinicopathologic parameters. Additionally, we p

Living materials for gas therapy.

The clinical translation of gas therapy, which employs medical gases such as nitric oxide (NO), carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), hydrogen (H2), and sulfur dioxide (SO2), is mainly limited by the absence of delivery systems that can provide precise spatiotemporal control in complex pathological environments. While conventional nanocarriers have improved in gas delivery, they often suffer from limited biocompatibility, poor targeting, and insufficient responsiveness. Recently, living materials emerged as a promising and innovative paradigm. Engineered from biological entities such a
