Spatially-Aware Reliability Modeling for BEV LiDAR 3D Vehicle Detection.

Bird's-eye-view (BEV) LiDAR detectors provide an efficient representation for real-time 3D perception, but their confidence scores may be imperfectly aligned with the localization quality of decoded 3D boxes. This score-localization mismatch can reduce the reliability of detection ranking, especially under strict IoU criteria and range-dependent LiDAR observations. To address this issue, we propose Spatially-Aware Quality Calibration (SAQC), a lightweight reliability-oriented scoring framework for BEV LiDAR 3D vehicle detection. SAQC estimates localization quality from coordinate-augmented loc

Agent4CD: Generative Agent for Cognitive Diagnosis in Intelligent Education.

Cognitive diagnosis (CD) is a central assessment approach in intelligent education that aims to uncover learners' knowledge mastery and latent cognitive abilities under examination conditions. However, existing models primarily infer learners' knowledge state based on their final performance, thus failing to capture the reasoning trajectories during problem-solving and struggling to address the dissociation between ability and performance caused by short-term affective fluctuations. To address these challenges, we propose a generative agent for CD (Agent4CD) in intelligent education that enhan

Do Emojis Reduce Hostile Attribution in Online Communication? An ERP Study with Chinese University Students.

The perception of hostility in online contexts is closely associated with the occurrence of online aggression. Compared to traditional methods that rely on self-report or behavioral analysis, ERP allows for real-time, objective capture of neural responses to emotional stimuli, making it especially suited to reveal the immediate processing of hostility expectation violations. By creating distinct social contexts, we examined participants' brain responses to violations of hostility expectations in text-based communications, both with and without emojis. The results indicated that in the absence

Saturated Precise Robust Singular Spectrum Analysis-Diffusion Model Predictive Control of AUVs.

Accurate path following by autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) in wave-dominated environments is limited by two coupled engineering constraints: feedback-driven disturbance observers (DOBs) exhibit phase lag, whereas aggressive cancellation of high-frequency components can exceed the vehicle and actuator bandwidths. This article develops a closed-loop predictive compensation architecture, termed singular spectrum analysis-diffusion (S2D)-model predictive control (MPC) that integrates a S2D observer, a dynamics-informed adaptive filter (DIAF), and MPC. The observer combines instantaneous Kalm

Mechanisms of volatile flavor formation in fermented meat products and prospects of artificial intelligence-based prediction.

Volatile flavor formation in fermented meat products is governed by complex interactions among raw materials, microbial metabolism, proteolysis, lipid oxidation, amino acid conversion, processing conditions, and ripening. These processes generate diverse volatile compounds, including aldehydes, ketones, alcohols, acids, esters, and sulfur- and nitrogen-containing compounds, which collectively determine product aroma and sensory quality. However, their dynamic, nonlinear, and multi-factorial nature makes accurate prediction and mechanism interpretation challenging using conventional statistical

A Bioinspired, Multimodal Soft Tactile Skin with Task-Adaptive Perception for Intelligent Robotic Manipulation.

Achieving human-like tactile perception is essential for robotic systems to perform fine manipulation and adapt to dynamic environments. However, most tactile sensors have deviated from the physiological encoding based on human mechanoreceptors. Here, we present a layered trimodal tactile sensing system that mimics Meissner, Merkel, and Ruffini receptors. These sensors can accurately distinguish stimuli (static normal pressure, dynamic shear vibration, static horizontal strain) coming from different directions and in different shapes. Using a receptor-level analysis framework based on random f

Multiphoton Excitation in Retinal Imaging and Functional Measurements.

In the retina, two-photon (2P) excitation induces fluorescence emission both from endogenous fluorophores, including vitamin A metabolites that sustain vision, and from exogenous dyes or fluorescent proteins expressed selectively in individual retinal cells. The simultaneous absorption of two near infrared photons generates 2P excited fluorescence and results in high signal-to-noise ratio images deep in the tissue, enabling acquisition of 3D volumes over the entire thickness of the retina in an intact eye. Advancements in noninvasive 2P-based techniques offer detailed characterization of retin

Perception, Synaptic Plasticity, and Spiking Neuron Function Enabled by a 2D Ferroelectric NbOBr2 for Neuromorphic Vision.

2D ferroelectrics integrate electrically tunable polarization dynamics with anisotropic light-matter interaction, providing a unified platform for co-localized sensing and in-memory computing. However, most neuromorphic visual systems still rely on heterogeneous components that exploit only a single material functionality at a time, thereby increasing system complexity and fabrication costs. Here, we demonstrate a device-algorithm co-design for neuromorphic visual recognition based on multifunctional NbOBr2. By leveraging its anisotropic broadband photoresponse, robust in-plane ferroelectricit

Cerebellar Electrical Activity as a Marker for Predicting Brain Health and Disease: A Review.

The cerebellum is traditionally considered a structure responsible for motor control, but it is also involved in auditory perception, vocalization, speech, memory, emotional control, and social cognition. Due to its high intrinsic synaptic plasticity and complex connectivity with other brain regions, it is of potential interest for monitoring adaptive responses under various physiological and pathological conditions to capture global brain dynamics. Nevertheless, the use of electrocerebellography (ECeG) to detect changes in cerebellar electrical activity is limited, and a systematic evaluation

Pilot Study: Postoperative Evaluation of Upper Extremity Lymphedema Using a Cutometer: A Single-center Prospective Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: Owing to the presence of congested lymphatic fluid, lymphedema involves greater stiffness than other types of edema. Although lymphaticovenular anastomosis relieves the symptoms of lymphedema, the resulting skin stiffness remains to be objectively evaluated. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to explore the objective indicators of lymphaticovenular anastomosis outcomes. METHODS: Eleven female patients with unilateral secondary upper extremity lymphedema who underwent lymphaticovenular anastomosis were divided into "improved" and "unchanged" groups based on the subjective perceptio

In memory of Ryan White, the boy with haemophilia who showed the world the other side of AIDS Lest We Forget….

In the 1980s, AIDS triggered a huge wave of fear, as always happens when unknown, deadly diseases emerge. The fact that gay men were among the first to be infected with HIV and to manifest the disease prompted public opinion to link the infection to behaviours that were, at least at that time, transgressive and therefore unacceptable and shameful. AIDS sufferers were therefore exposed to discrimination from the outset. The case of young Ryan White prompted much-needed reflection in the mid-1980s. Born with a severe form of haemophilia, Ryan contracted AIDS through the therapeutic administratio

Qualitative study on the sense of meaning in life in uremic patients undergoing initial hemodialysis.

BACKGROUND: For patients with uraemia, the most effective treatment, aside from surgical interventions like kidney transplantation, is maintenance haemodialysis. First-time haemodialysis patients often lack an understanding of the treatment, making them susceptible to negative emotions such as anxiety and depression, as well as shifts in their perception of life's meaning. This study aims to explore the sense of meaning in life experienced by patients undergoing their first session of haemodialysis. METHODS: This qualitative study employed purposive sampling to select 11 patients, followed by

Mourning for Silence: Bereavement and Tinnitus-A Perspective.

Tinnitus is defined as the conscious awareness of a tonal or composite noise for which there is no identifiable corresponding external acoustic source, which becomes tinnitus disorder when the phantom sound is associated with suffering and/or disability. There is only limited knowledge about the time course of tinnitus disorder. Bereavement science has identified four different trajectories: resilience, recovery, chronic, and delayed. The question arises whether these four trajectories exist in tinnitus as well if one considers tinnitus as the loss of silence (at will). To verify whether these

The mediating effect of dyadic coping between illness perception and fear of disease progression in bladder cancer patients: A cross-sectional survey.

This study examines determinants of fear of disease progression (FoP) in bladder cancer patients and test dyadic coping (DC) as a mediator between illness perception (IP) and FoP. In this cross-sectional study, 126 bladder cancer patients underwent comprehensive assessment using a general information questionnaire, a fear of disease progression questionnaire-short form (FoP-Q-SF), a brief IP questionnaire and a DC inventory. Structural equation modeling with bootstrap resampling (n = 5000 iterations) quantified DC's mediating role in the IP-FoP pathway. The scores for IP, DC, and FoP in patien

Anticipation, perception, and recollection of acute pain from local anesthesia injection prior to Mohs surgery.

Subcutaneous local anesthetic injection is universally used in dermatologic surgery to achieve anesthesia. While multiple factors have been identified as influential in chronic pain, little is known about factors that contribute to acute pain. The purpose of this article is to elucidate trends and factors that contribute to the perception of acute pain. Patients scheduled to undergo Mohs surgery at our institution were surveyed regarding their anticipated, perceived, and recalled pain from local anesthetic injection prior to ("Before"), during ("During"), immediately after ("After"), and on th

Barriers and Facilitators to Pharmacist-Led Deprescribing of Antihypertensives in Long-Term Care: A Survey-Based Study.

Pharmacist-led deprescribing is an approach of addressing polypharmacy in the long-term care (LTC) setting. However, the sustainability of this practice has not been widely studied. This study describes facilitators and barriers to pharmacist-led deprescribing from pre- and post-surveys completed as part of a randomized controlled antihypertensive deprescribing trial in Alberta, Canada. The surveys, targeting facilitators and barriers to deprescribing, were developed based on current evidence and designed through an iterative process with pharmacist input and consist of open- and closed-ended

Functional diversities within neurons and astrocytes in the adult rat auditory cortex revealed by single-nucleus RNA sequencing.

The mammalian cerebral cortex is composed of a rich diversity of cell types. Sensory cortical cells are organized into networks that rely on their functional diversity to ultimately carry out a variety of sophisticated cognitive functions for perception, learning, and memory. The auditory cortex (AC) has been most extensively studied for its experience-dependent effects, including for perceptual learning and associative memory. Here, we used single-nucleus RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq) in the AC of the adult rat to investigate the breadth of transcriptionally diverse cell types that likely suppor

The potential role of retinal slip in National Football League (NFL) officiating and its effect on on-field decision making: mechanisms and countermeasures.

Visual processing involves numerous neuro-ophthalmic pathways that enable humans to perceive and interact with the world. These visual pathways can negatively impact visual perception and decision-making. The Vestibulo-Ocular Reflex (VOR) is a compensatory mechanism that stabilizes gaze on a target during head movement, such as running or turning. However, inadequate VOR stabilization can lead to retinal slip, reducing visual acuity. In the National Football League (NFL), officials require exceptional visual training and performance. NFL officiating utilize rapid visual processing, strategic m
