A review of risk factors for catheter-related bloodstream infection caused by percutaneously inserted, noncuffed central venous catheters: implications for preventive strategies.

Strategies for preventing central venous catheter (CVC)-related bloodstream infection are most likely to be effective if guided by an understanding of the risk factors associated with these infections. In this critical review of published studies of risk factors for CVC-related bloodstream infection that were prospective and used multivariable techniques of data analysis or that were randomized trials of a preventive measure, a significantly increased risk of catheter-related bloodstream infection was associated with inexperience of the operator and nurse-to-patient ratio in the intensive care

Nanofibrous Covalent Organic Frameworks as the Cathode, Separator, and Anode for Batteries with High Energy Density and Ultrafast-Charging Performance.

To meet the demand for longer driving ranges and shorter charging times of power equipment in electric vehicles, engineering fast-charging batteries with exceptional capacity and extended lifespan is highly desired. In this work, we have developed a stable ultrafast-charging and high-energy-density all-nanofibrous covalent organic framework (COF) battery (ANCB) by designing a series of imine-based nanofibrous COFs for the cathode, separator, and anode by Schiff-base reactions. Hierarchical porous structures enabled by nanofibrous COFs were constructed for enhanced kinetics. Rational chemical s

The experiences of families of children with cerebral palsy and complex disability after three years accessing the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

INTRODUCTION: In Australia, children with cerebral palsy and complex disability receive funded supports through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). This individualised funding scheme requires parents to navigate and advocate on behalf of their child, supported by expert reports, recommendations, and allied health services. Supports aim to enable participation in all areas of daily life, which may be otherwise largely inaccessible to children with complex disability and their families. This study aimed to explore the experiences of families of children with complex disability after

Sutureless intrascleral fixation using a uniquely designed intraocular lens.

We report our experience in the surgical technique of sutureless intrascleral posterior chamber intraocular lens (PC IOL) fixation in patients with insufficient capsular support using a uniquely designed, foldable, acrylic Carlevale IOL. It is specifically designed for sutureless scleral fixation and is equipped with a small plug attached to each of two haptics to anchor the lens to the sclera with a self-retaining mechanism. This surgery does not require creation of a scleral tunnel or transscleral exposure or excessive manipulation of the haptics. The harpoon-like plugs provide great stabili

Research on the development trend of global running protection equipment technology from the perspective of patent measurement.

This study provides a systematic examination of global development trajectories in running protective equipment by applying large-scale patent mining and quantitative analysis to international and domestic patent data. The results identify three distinct phases in the evolution of this field: the nascent stage (1898-1970), the accumulation period (1971-1999), and the rapid expansion phase after 2000. Patent activity has been dominated by enterprises in the United States, which maintain a leading position in both volume and quality, while China has demonstrated rapid growth in filings since the

SF6 Decomposition Gas Sensing on an AlN/Janus MoSeTe Heterostructure: A Density Functional Theory Study.

The detection of SF6 decomposition gases is crucial for condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of gas-insulated electrical equipment. In this work, a van der Waals heterostructure composed of an AlN monolayer and Janus MoSeTe (AlN@MoSeTe) is proposed as a sensing platform for representative SF6 decomposition gases, including SO2, H2S, SOF2, SO2F2, and SF4. Density functional theory calculations were performed to systematically investigate adsorption characteristics, electronic structure modulation, and sensing-related properties of the heterostructure. The results reveal that AlN@MoSeTe exhi

Out in the cold: Testing a multi-agency approach to working in extreme cold emergency situations.

Climate change has amplified the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, including snow, floods, and heatwaves, which pose significant challenges to emergency service provision. While existing literature on the impacts of extreme weather on emergency services is limited, the United Kingdom (UK), with its varying weather patterns, faces considerable risks to infrastructure, health, and service delivery during these events, which are no longer extremely rare occurrences. This study investigates the effectiveness of multiagency, immersive simulation training in preparing emergency resp

Mixed Reality Golf Putting: A Comparative Analysis of Golf Putting Performance in Real, Virtual, and Augmented Virtuality Environments.

Although immersive technologies hold enormous potential for enhancing sports training, existing systems encounter notable limitations. While fully immersive virtual reality (VR) systems can address constraints of physical training setups such as limited space or equipment, full VR environments often lack rich, realistic, and multisensory feedback often required for effective sports training. To address this gap, this work investigates skill-based sport training, particularly, golf putting, across the reality-virtuality continuum. We implemented a mixed reality (MR) putting simulator that combi
