Rheumatoid nodules are a common extra-articular manifestation in rheumatoid arthritis. Intra-articular localisation of these nodules is rare and may produce clinical symptoms. Seven patients with walking problems due to an intra-articular rheumatoid nodule, which became entrapped on the ridge of the tibial plateau of the knee joint resulting in a phenomenon referred to as trigger knee, are described. After excision of the nodules all symptoms completely disappeared.

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction may manifest itself clinically by a variety of presentations ranging from headache, pre-auricular pain or tenderness, otalgia, to mandibular hypomobility. Some symptoms may mimic forms of facial pain such as: temporal arteritis, migraine, cluster headache, trigeminal or glossopharyngeal neuralgias, myofascial pain dysfunction, or muscle contraction (tension) headache. This article will focus on a relatively new diagnostic tool that may be used to examine the TMJ for intracapsular pathology which may be responsible for the presenting patients' symptoms.

Computer tomography data on 124 patients with degenerative-dystrophic diseases of hip joint of different etiology are presented. The results of surgical treatment of 82 patients with postburn deformity of a foot and an ankle joint are presented. For elimination of the deformity and contracture, the tightening scars were excised, autodermoplasty of a defect was used, in severe contracture of the ankle joint, the Ilizarov's apparatus was applied, trophic ulcers of a stump of the foot were closed by means of a migrating Filatov's graft. In 80.5% of the patients, a contracture was eliminated, the weight-bearing function of a foot improved.

Open condylotomy using Moose's intra-oral approach was performed on 46 patients suffering from anterior disc displacement. The results show that condylotomy is useful in the treatment of this disorder, but the technique used is not recommended due to the risk of dislocation of the condylar fragment.

It is reported about the results after operative mobilization of knee joint in 19 patients with contractures of extension muscles of knee joints. After operative arthrolysis and/or Payr-Plasty the range of motion has increased on average from 23 degrees to 92 degrees (a relative gain of 52%). Based on the ultrasound investigation of 19,666 babies (1981-1988), 6341 of them directly at the maternity ward, we picked out the group of sonographically unstable or decentered hip joints, which must be treated instantly. Almost 50% of these hips did not show any clinical signs of instability! A new method of compression-arthrodesis of the ankle joint using monolateral external fixation is introduced. After bimalleolar incision and resection of the tibio-talar joint-surfaces, compression fixation was achieved by the Monofixateur placed ventromedially. The lateral malleolus was used as a bar-chip fixed with two screws. Between 1985 and 1988 this operation was performed on ten patients, mostly because of posttraumatic joint destruction. This report deals with 4 dislocations of the carpometacarpal joint of the thumb during the period 1957-1983 as an injury caused by sports. 3 dislocations could be found in boxing, one was caused by a fall from a horizontal bar. All of them were closed: two times the dislocation was to the dorsal, one to the dorso-ulnar and one to the dorso-radial side. Closed dislocations do not require operative treatment.
