Acute effects of static and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation stretching on hamstrings muscle stiffness and range of motion: a randomized cross-over study.

This study aimed to compare the acute effects of static stretching (SS) and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) stretching on hamstrings flexibility and shear modulus. Sixteen recreationally active young volunteers participated in a randomized cross-over study. Participants underwent an aerobic warm-up (WU), followed by either SS or PNF stretching. Range of motion (RoM) during passive straight leg raise and active knee extension, as well as shear modulus of the biceps femoris (BF) and semitendinosus (ST) muscles, were measured at baseline, post-WU, and post-stretching. Both stretch…

Use of an optical jaw-tracking system to record mandibular motion for treatment planning and designing interim and definitive prostheses: A dental technique.

Optical jaw-tracking systems can record mandibular motion during the various treatment phases. Also, computer-aided design programs facilitate the integration of a patient's digital information, including recorded mandibular motion, into the design of interim and definitive prostheses. A technique to fabricate a complete mouth implant-supported rehabilitation by using mandibular motion captured with an optical jaw-tracking system is described. The mandibular motion recordings obtained before the treatment are combined with the interim restorations to perform a diagnostic waxing, design the com…

Mitral Valve Systolic Anterior Motion in Robotic Thoracic Surgery as the Cause of Unexplained Hemodynamic Shock: From a Case Report to Recommendations.

Robotic major lung resection for lung cancer carries a risk for intraoperative hemodynamic instability. Systolic anterior motion (SAM) of the mitral valve is a rare and often misrecognized cause of intraoperative hemodynamic instability. If not promptly recognized, SAM leads to a complicated perioperative course. Here, we report for the first time a case of a patient with SAM with a severe degree of left ventricular outflow obstruction (LVOTO) undergoing robotic lung lobectomy and its challenging intraoperative management. A 70-year-old man undergoing robotic left upper lobectomy developed imm…

The influence of the viscoelastic property of polycarbonate urethane as an artificial disc core material under various physiological motions at the L4-L5 level.

Intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration is one of the musculoskeletal disorders due to the Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD), that cause low back pain (LBP) and leads to a reduced range of motion. Spinal fusion and arthroplasty are the other surgical procedures that could replace the disc affected by DDD against artificial disc replacement (ADR). This study aims to analyse the biomechanical behaviour of proposed core material as Polycarbonate Urethane (PCU) in the L4-L5 lumbar segment for ADR with Ti-6Al-4V and Co-28Cr-6M as endplate materials and compare it to the performance of an ultra-high mo…

A preliminary evaluation of a high temporal resolution data-driven motion correction algorithm for rubidium-82 on a SiPM PET-CT system.

BACKGROUND: In myocardial perfusion PET, images are acquired during vasodilator stress, increasing the likelihood of intra-frame motion blurring of the heart in reconstructed static images to assess relative perfusion. This work evaluated a prototype data-driven motion correction (DDMC) algorithm designed specifically for cardiac PET. METHODS: A cardiac torso phantom, with a solid defect, was scanned stationary and being manually pulled to-and-fro in the axial direction with a random motion. Non-motion-corrected (NMC) and DDMC images were reconstructed. Total perfusion deficit was measured in…

Impact of age and cardiac disease on regional left and right ventricular myocardial motion in healthy controls and patients with repaired tetralogy of fallot.

The assessment of both left (LV) and right ventricular (RV) motion is important to understand the impact of heart disease on cardiac function. The MRI technique of tissue phase mapping (TPM) allows for the quantification of regional biventricular three-directional myocardial velocities. The goal of this study was to establish normal LV and RV velocity parameters across a wide range of pediatric to adult ages and to investigate the feasibility of TPM for detecting impaired regional biventricular function in patients with repaired tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). Thirty-six healthy controls (age = 1-7…
