Using longitudinal data from Ukraine we examine the extent of any long-lasting effects of exposure to the Chernobyl disaster on the health and labour market performance of the adult workforce. Variation in the local area level of radiation fallout from the Chernobyl accident is considered as a random exogenous shock with which to try to establish its causal impact on poor health, labour force participation, hours worked and wages. The accident of radiation oncology at the Public General Hospital in Epinal, Vosges, is the highest in France. This study evaluates the decorporation efficacy of a pulmonary administration of a new Ca-DTPA (diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid) dry powder (18 micromol kg(-1) of body mass) after pulmonary contamination of rats with different Pu compounds. After inhalation of PuO2, a delayed intratracheal administration of DTPA cannot reduce significantly the retention of Pu in the lungs but limits its transfer in liver and skeleton. Liquidators of Chernobyl power accident consiquences were subjected to simultaneous external gamma-beta radiation and inhalation of particles containing radionuclides aerosols, nonradiation toxic chemicals and dust. Typical defects of medical examination of liquidators were seen: sending people with pulmonary diseases to post-accident work, erroneous interpretation of the disease severity with underestimation of previous occupational history and nonradiation factors deteriorating the case.

This retrospective study was conducted to determine the indication of chest wall irradiation following mastectomy in axillary node-positive breast cancer patients. Between 1982 and 1993, 103 women with axillary node-positive breast cancer received postoperative radiation therapy following mastectomy using the hockey-stick field, which included the ipsilateral supraclavicular fossa and internal mammary nodes, without the chest wall. Ages ranged from 33 to 73 years (median: 47). Thirty-five patients underwent modified radical mastectomy, 48 radical mastectomy, and 20 extended radical mastectomy.

However, no previous literature documents Sigmoidovesical fistula (SVF) expansion with sepsis following transurethral resection of prostate (TURP).
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 73-year-old male with benign prostatic hyperplasia who developed SVF expansion and postoperative sepsis following TURP. Emergency transverse colostomy achieved infection control, followed by successful laparoscopic sigmoidectomy during secondary surgery.

Carotid artery aneurysms are an uncommon but important problem. The available data suggests that, untreated, these aneurysms lead to neurologic symptoms from embolization.
