We consider a marginal model for the regression analysis of clustered failure time data with a cure fraction. We propose to use novel generalized estimating equations in an expectation-maximization algorithm to estimate regression parameters in a semiparametric proportional hazards mixture cure model. The dependence among the cure statuses and among the survival times of uncured patients within clusters are modeled by working correlation matrices in the estimating equations. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the indication, efficacy and influencing factors of velopharyngoplasty for treating of obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS).
METHOD: Thirty OSAHS patients were included in this study, all cases had velopharyngoplasty. The follow-up period was between 6 to 11 months; and a series of measurements parameters was analysed for thirty cases.

The grossly enlarged tonsils of a heavily snoring child or adult with upper airway obstruction is usually sufficient indication for tonsillectomy. The purpose of this paper was to elucidate the mechanism of action of berbamine on the T-lymphocyte mediated immune responses. Effects of berbamine on IL-2 production, IL-2 receptor expression and the interaction between IL-2 and IL-2 receptor were observed. The results clearly demonstrated that berbamine suppressed the expression of IL-2 receptors on PHA induced T-blast cells, but did not alter the production of IL-2 of mouse splenic cells and human tonsil lymphocytes. We present a case of fatal cervical osteomyelitis following an elective tonsillectomy in a previously fit young man. A protocol was developed to obtain mature lymphocytes from freshly harvested tonsils by a combination of 5-, 10-, and 20-cm3 syringes and 21-, 23-, and 27-gauge needles. The cells were then suspended in Earle's balanced salt solution and counted with an automated cell counter. Cell counts for each study group was compared as a function of needle and syringe size. A prospective study was carried out to evaluate the sensitivity of sonography in the diagnosis of peritonsillar abscesses (quinsy). From 1986 to 1991 all cases of clinically doubtful peritonsillitis were subjected to B-Mode ultrasonography of the tonsils before tonsillectomy. 118 patients were examined. Sensitivity of the method in cases of clinically uncertain peritonsillar abscesses was 87%.
