The diagnosis and treatment of pelvic bone hydatidosis (BH) present substantial challenges for orthopedic surgeons, requiring collaboration with parasitologists, radiologists, pathologists, and engineers. Surgical treatment selection depends on factors such as the extent of bone loss, soft tissue management, previously applied therapies, and local colonization status. This report details the advanced management of two young patients diagnosed late with severe cystic pelvic BH, an atypical presentation due to their geographic origin and age. Following extensive diagnostic assessments, including

Osteoarticular hydatid disease is a very rare disease. Its diagnosis is challenging and often late because of the nonspecific clinical and radiological features. Through this study, we aim to describe the epidemiological, clinical and radiological features of a series of patients diagnosed with osteoarticular hydatid disease. Ten patients were included. The average age was 40,5 years [25-75]. The onset of symptoms was progressive in all cases with a mean diagnosis delay of 11 months [1-48]. Most frequent locations were spinal (n=7), pelvic (n=3) and costal (n=3). Hydatid serology was positive

Hydatid disease, caused by the larval stages of Echinococcus species, poses a significant public health challenge, especially in resource-limited cattle-producing areas of South America. The number of cases in children under the age of 15 is nearly 16% of the total cases in South America according to the latest report of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). The presentation of the disease depends on the anatomic location and correlates with the parasitic life stage. The liver is the most commonly affected organ in children, followed by the lungs, kidney, bone, and brain. The classifica…

Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a zoonotic disease caused by the infection of Echinococcus granulosus (E. granulosus) larva. Currently, blocking the pathogenic cycle chain through immunoprophylaxis has become the main research direction. EgG1Y162 protein has good antigenicity and immunogenicity and is therefore a good candidate molecule for E. granulosus vaccine. Mature T cells express CTLA-4 on their surface, and its extracellular IgV region binds efficiently to the B7 molecules on antigen-presenting cells to deliver negative signals. We designed and prepared a recombinant vaccine by fusing CTL…

Cranioplasty to restore calvarial defects involves reconstruction with alloplastic materials or autologous tissues in order to provide the best protection to all intracranial contents. Sometimes, autologous bone may not be available; therefore, different materials have emerged such as polymethylmethacrylate plate, titanium mesh, and hydroxyapatite. However, when it is impossible to replace the autologous bone, the aesthetic result is generally unsatisfactory. Some techniques like neuronavigation and computer-aided design can help overcome these problems. However, these techniques cost too much

Osteoclast differentiation is essential for maintaining bone metabolism, and its dysregulation, particularly in the context of Echinococcus granulosus (CE) infection, can lead to severe bone loss. This study explores a novel mechanism by which CE protoscolices (PSC) drive osteoclast differentiation through the inhibition of Nrf2, followed by the upregulation of Camkk1. Transcriptome sequencing revealed a significant down-regulation of Nrf2 in cells treated with PSC. This was confirmed by Western blot and Q-PCR assays showing reduced Nrf2 protein and gene levels. In vivo studies with Nrf2 knock…

BACKGROUND: Lymph node metastasis is a specific type of metastasis in hepatic alveolar echinococcosis (AE). Currently, there is a scarcity of describing the clinical characteristics and lymph node metastasis rules of patients with hepatic AE combined with lymph node metastasis and its mechanism and management are still controversial. Radical hepatectomy combined with regional lymph node dissection is a better treatment.
AIM: To analyse the clinical features of hepatic AE combined with lymph node metastasis to explore its treatment and efficacy.
METHODS: A total of 623 patients with hepatic A…

Parasitic liver diseases can be caused by trematodes, cestodes, nematodes, and protozoa. This pathology is significant because millions of people in different parts of the world have liver parasites, which can manifest themselves in the development of inflammation, liver cysts, cholecystitis, cholelithiasis, pancreatitis and liver cirrhosis that are often threatening their lives. The International Agency for Research on Cancer considers three species of trematodes, Schistosoma haematobium, Opisthorchis viverrini and Clonorchis sinensis, to be carcinogens. Complex modern examination methods, in

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a significant contributor to the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Iron, a central co-factor in various metabolic pathways, plays an essential role in liver function, but its dysregulation can lead to severe health consequences. Accumulation of iron within hepatic cells over time is linked to increased liver injury and is strongly associated with sensitive exposure to a range of conditions, including cirrhosis, fibrosis and ultimately, HCC. This review explores the intricate interplay betwe

UNLABELLED: The consumption of pharmaceuticals has rapidly increased on a global scale due to the serious increase in Covid-19, influenza and respiratuar sinsityal virus, which is called "triple epidemic" in the world. The use of non-prescription analgesic and anti-inflammatory drugs (AAIDs), especially paracetamol, is higher compared to pre-pandemic. This increased the AAIDs load discharged to the aqueous media through sewerage treatment plant (STP). Therefore, simple and effective treatment options for removing AAIDs from STP effluents are needed. The aim of the study was to remove AAIDs (pa
