To evaluate the clinical-effectiveness of etretinate in the treatment of papilloma virus infections, 20 children with extensive warts were given this oral retinoid for a period not exceeding three months at a dosage of 1 mg per kg per day. Sixteen patients showed complete regression of the disease without relapse, while in 4, lesions recurred after partial regression had been obtained. A follow-up of two years confirmed these findings. A randomized pilot study, comparing oral naproxen and a single betamethasone injection, was carried out in 21 patients suffering from lateral epicondylitis of the humerus ("tennis elbow"). In 293 patients with previously untreated polycythaemia vera, two different treatment modalities were randomized: 32P (0.5-1 mCi/10 kg at diagnosis and for each overt relapse) versus busulfan (4-6 mg/day during 4-8 weeks, with re-administration at relapse). A controlled trial of contact allergen therapy of alopecia areata (AA) using squaric acid dibutyl ester (SADBE) was performed on 17 patients. The right side of the patient's scalp was treated and the left side acted as an untreated control. Minimal signs of terminal hair growth were present in only 3 patients after 8-12 weeks of therapy. A majority of patients experienced adverse effects which led to the early withdrawal of 2 patients and the premature termination of the trial. We do not recommend the use of SADBE in the treatment of AA.

Ten patients with severe Graves' ophthalmopathy, resistant to other therapeutic regimens were treated with cyclosporin A (CyA) over a period of 6 months.
