Concerns remain about total hip arthroplasty (THA) performed in very young patients, especially those with complex medical history such as allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (ABMT). This study retrospectively reviews the perioperative courses and functional outcomes of ABMT patients <21 years old undergoing primary uncemented THA. Nine THAs were performed in five ABMT patients at an average age of 19.7 years. The interval between ABMT and THA was 73.0 months with clinical follow-up of 25.8 months. PURPOSE: Warming up prior to surgery has been shown to enhance surgeons' performance during laparoscopic procedures. It is unknown whether or not warming up prior to total hip arthroplasty (THA) will have a similar effect on surgical outcome.
METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated the effect of warming up on the intraoperative outcome of 82 patients who underwent a primary THA with identical implants. The patients were divided equally into two groups. Group 1 (first case of the day) served as "warm-up procedure," while Group 2 (second case of the day) was the "post-warm-up procedure."

Fistula formation between bowel and total hip arthroplasty or revision arthroplasty hardware is rare. We present a case of a 78-year-old woman with protrusio of left hip arthroplasty and acetabular reconstruction hardware that caused direct perforation of the sigmoid colon and fistula formation between the sigmoid colon and the left hip joint. The patient underwent several joint debridements, sigmoid colectomy, and removal of all orthopedic hardware; she ultimately died after two prolonged hospitalizations.

We report a case of a 63-year-old man who presented an end stage hip osteoarthritis 42 years after a proximal femoral osteotomy performed for the treatment of an intracapsular femoral neck fracture. A cemented total hip arthroplasty was implanted using a standard posterior approach. The osteotomy hardware was totally covered with a new cortical bone formation. This article presents a case of early intraprosthetic dislocation of a dual-mobility hip prosthesis after revision total hip arthroplasty for instability. A 70-year-old woman was revised to a dual-mobility cup for multiple hip dislocations. She dislocated the dual-mobility construct twice, which was closed reduced. Total hip arthroplasty (THA) after acetabular fracture presents unique challenges, including acetabular fixation. Twelve patients with a history of acetabular fracture underwent THA with porous metal cups. The average age was 57 years (range 24-88). THA was performed at an average 20 months from initial fracture. Average follow-up was 39 months (range 24-49). Average WOMAC scores improved from 32 to 79; UCLA scores improved from 1.75 to 5.25.
