The pathogenesis of Sjögren's syndrome is poorly understood. Genetic and environmental factors appear to contribute to the development of this syndrome. The mechanisms underlying abnormal T-cell function in B-chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL) are unknown. We have studied B-CLL T-cell activation pathways in the rigorous absence of leukemic cells and with controlled numbers of accessory cells present. To determine the phenotype of target cells for bovine leukemia virus (BLV) infection in sheep, we analyzed blood lymphocytes from BLV-infected clinically healthy and leukemic sheep by use of monoclonal antibodies.
