Linking a History of Childhood Abuse to Adult Health among Canadians: A Structural Equation Modelling Analysis.

A history of childhood abuse has been linked to serious and long-lasting problems in adulthood. We developed two theoretical models concerning how early adverse experiences affect health in adulthood, and we tested the empirical fit of the two models in a population-based representative sample of Canadian adults (N = 25,113) using a structural equation modelling (SEM) technique, path analysis. The first model included direct pathways by which a history of three types of childhood abuse-exposure to intimate partner violence, physical abuse, and sexual abuse-affected adult physical and mental he

Continuous-Time Event-Driven Temporal-Causal Attention for Intention-Driven Anticipation in Badminton.

High-speed badminton requires defenders to anticipate opponents' intentions from early kinematic cues under severe temporal and sensory constraints. Existing models rely on discrete-time assumptions and statistical correlations, failing under irregular sampling or missing frames. We propose a Continuous-Time Event-Driven Temporal-Causal Attention (CT-ACI) framework that models the intention state as a neural ordinary differential equation (Neural ODE), embeds a physical causal mask to prevent backward leakage, and introduces an adaptive integral triggering mechanism for event-driven prediction

A Bayesian approach for exploring the effects of household income on self-reported mental health measures during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The relationship between income and mental health is well-established yet complex, as both can be confounded by age, gender, and other demographic factors. To clarify these dynamics, this study examines the effects of age and income on symptoms of depression and generalised anxiety across female and male genders during the COVID-19 pandemic in the UK. Data from Wave-1 and Wave-6 of the COVID-19 Psychological Research Consortium (C19PRC) study were analysed using Bayesian hierarchical ordered-logistic mediation models. Results showed that older age was linked to less depression and anxiety in b

Applicability and validation of Franco, Willems and Willems II dental age estimation models in a population of Ceará, Brazil.

Dental age assessment plays a crucial role in clinical and forensic contexts. For safer practices, however, the existing methods need to be tested. This study aimed to evaluate for the first time the applicability of Franco's, Willems', and Willems' II dental age assessment models in a Northeastern Brazilian sample. The sample consisted of 500 panoramic radiographs (250 males, 250 females) of Brazilian individuals between 6 and 15.9 years from the State of Ceará. Chronological (CA) and estimated (EA) ages compared using mean error (ME), mean absolute error (MAE), and root mean square error (RM

Ontogeny of schooling behavior and stage-specific vulnerability to valproic acid in Xenopus laevis larvae.

Perinatal exposure to chemicals such as valproic acid (VPA) increases the risk of neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Because maternal drug metabolism complicates the assessment of fetal impacts in mammalian models, Xenopus laevis tadpoles have emerged as an effective alternative for neurotoxicology. Tadpoles exhibit "schooling," a polarized social aggregation behavior. Previous studies, which exposed tadpoles to VPA continuously from stage NF42 to NF49, suggested that VPA-induced social behavior abnormalities are triggered during this period. In this study,

Drosophila melanogaster as a Model for Gastrointestinal Radiation Injury: Conserved Mechanisms, Experimental Approaches, and Countermeasure Discovery.

The gastrointestinal tract is a critical target of acute radiation exposure. Severe radiation exposure can deplete epithelial stem and progenitor cells, compromise barrier integrity, alter host-microbe interactions, and drive fluid loss, inflammation, and systemic decline. Mammalian models remain essential for clinical translation, but their cost and complexity constrain sample sizes, statistical power, large-scale mechanistic discovery, and countermeasure screening. The adult Drosophila melanogaster midgut provides a complementary in vivo platform containing intestinal stem cells, absorptive

A multi-Level Study of 20S proteasome inhibitors: an integrated approach combining chemistry and Modelling.

In view of the important role of 20S proteasome inhibitors in the treatment of multiple myeloma, a 2D-QSAR study was developed using the Monte Carlo approach for 41 peptide boronic acids (PBA) characterised by the CT-L activity of the human 20S proteasome. The QSAR models were generated using six target functions: TF0, TF1, TF2, TF3, TF4 and TF5. Among twenty-four models QSAR developed, the best (model-23 using split-1) was selected based on important statistical performance. Subsequently, the structural fragments responsible for the enhancement of CT-L activity were identified and used to pro

High-Precision Intelligent Diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer: Flowing Diffuseness from Single to Whole.

Raman spectroscopy, as a label-free optical technique, provides a unique solution for tissue diagnosis. However, due to the limitation of point-by-point acquisition mode and multivariate statistical analysis methods, conventional methods pose a major bottleneck toward achieving highly time-efficient, accurate, and holistic diagnosis. Here, the authors establish line-scan Raman spectrochemical holistic analysis (LRSHA), an intelligent diagnostic method for rapid Raman data collection and holistic tissue diagnosis. The line-scan technique is first used for rapid spectral acquisition (∼15 s) in a
