The extension of infiltrating stomach cancer through the gastrocolic ligament into the transverse colon appears to be relatively common. The radiological appearance is characteristic, with more or less widespread, but shallow, extrinsic prints with irregular contours typical of malignant tumours. Its gastric origin is strongly suggested by its position of the superior border of the transverse colon. A 35-year-old women developed symptoms of multiple system disease. Three months later she was admitted to hospital and died six days after admission, with signs suggestive of mitral stenosis. Postmortem examination indicated primary chorion carcinoma of the right ovary with metastases to the left atrium, lungs, brain, kidneys, pancreas, mesenteric arteries, and spleen. The signs and symptoms, and the morphological and histological findings at necroscopy, are discussed.

785 combined diagnostic procedures are reported which were carried out on 353 patients with microscopically proven carcinoma of the prostate in order to detect metastases. X-ray films of the thorax, spine and pelvis were taken. Also bone-scintigraphy was done with 87MSr or 99MTc-polyphosphate. Additionally the alcaline, acid and prostate phosphatases were determined. A diagnostic coincidence between radiological results and bone-scan was found in 95.1% of cases. The bone-scan was false negative in 3.7%. Only in 1.2% metastases were detected earlier by the bone-scan than by x-ray examinations.

The first case of simultaneous presentation of a bladder and renal pelvic malignant fibrous histiocytoma is reported. Although only a small percentage of fibrous histiocytomas are malignant the lesion is extremely aggressive. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy have been used but only sporadic remissions have been reported. If the tumor is localized wide surgical excision is recommended.

Percutaneous fine needle aspiration biopsy was performed at retrograde pyelography in order to differentiate between metastatic and scarry involvement of a strictured ureter in a patient earlier operated upon because of malignant teratoma. The method is recommended in patients with malignant diseases where the differential diagnosis is impossible to establish at retrograde pyelography or urography.

The authors report the case of 60 year old man with multiple jeuno-ileal metastases from a malignant melanoma of the skin revealed by jejuno-jejunal intussusceptions. In the light of this case, the authors emphasize the frequency and preferential localisation of these metastases at the level of the jejunum and ileum, the usual mildness of their symptoms until the day where acute obstruction requires laparotomy. In 82 patients, a preoperative diagnosis of primary hyperparathyroidism has been established by means of transfemoral neck vein catheterization and measurement of serum immunoreactive parathyroid hormone (iPTH). Patients with retroperitoneal or mediastinal neoplasms of gonadal tissue type and clinically normal testes pose interesting therapeutic dilemmas. Three major groups of patients are recognized: (1) tumor is primary extragenital gonadal neoplasm; (2) occult microscopic primary neoplasm in a testicle with metastases; (3) area of fibrosis in a testicle representing local regression of tumor, but with distant metastases. Review of case reports often indicates lack of data sufficient for classification. Every effort should be made to group patients into proper categories, since treatment will vary.
