A Rare Event Causing Blindness in an Unrecognised Pregnancy: A Case Report.

Purtscher-like retinopathy (PLR) is a rare, non-traumatic microembolic angiopathy characteristically associated with systemic endothelial conditions, including pre-eclampsia. While PLR typically exhibits a self-limiting course with a highly favourable visual prognosis, severe cases result in permanent, treatment-refractory blindness. We present a catastrophic, atypical case of bilateral PLR in an unrecognised pregnancy without any antenatal care. A 31-year-old primigravida without prior antenatal screening presented with a three-day history of sudden, bilateral central blurry vision and was ne

Endoscope-assisted microsurgical resection of a primary oculomotor nerve schwannoma involving the cavernous sinus via a pterional approach: a case report with narrative review.

Primary oculomotor nerve schwannomas that involving the cavernous sinus represent an exceptionally rare entity. The surgical management of these tumors is complicated by the need to maximize resection while safeguarding oculomotor function. We report a middle-aged female who presented with headache, dizziness, and visual decline. Examination showed right ptosis and decreased visual acuity. MRI demonstrated a lesion in the right parasellar region that involved the cavernous sinus, circumferentially surrounded the cavernous segment of the internal carotid artery, and extended into the optic cana

Postoperative Capsular Bag Distension Syndrome: Case Report of an Early Case Following Athalamia due to Vigorous Eye Rubbing.

INTRODUCTION: Capsular bag distension syndrome (CBDS) is a rare complication of phacoemulsification, characterized by fluid retention in the capsular bag leading to reduced visual acuity, a myopic shift, and a risk of pupillary block. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 65-year-old male who developed CBDS after rubbing his eye vigorously postoperatively. On Postoperative Day 1, his best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 0.1 with a myopic shift. We made the diagnosis of CBDS with the Scheimpflug camera and AS-OCT. Conservative management was initially attempted, but due to persistent s

Transnasal Endoscopic Approach for the Revision of Rathke's Cyst and Successful Long-Term Follow-Up: A Case Report.

Rathke's cleft cysts are benign epithelial-lined sellar and suprasellar lesions that are often incidental findings but can cause visual deficits, hypopituitarism, and headaches when they enlarge and compress adjacent structures. Recurrence after surgical treatment remains challenging despite various surgical approaches. Marsupialization has emerged as an alternative technique for complex recurrent cases, establishing permanent communication between the cyst and the nasal cavity while minimizing surgical risk. We present a case of a 76-year-old man with type 2 diabetes mellitus, a history of me

Unilateral Frosted Branch Angiitis Following COVID-19 Disease: Case Report and Literature Review.

Frosted branch angiitis (FBA) is a rare and aggressive form of retinal vasculitis that can cause vision loss. This condition is typically idiopathic and can be associated with various infections or malignancies. Recently, FBA has been linked to COVID-19 in some reports. This report describes a rare association between COVID-19 and FBA and presents characteristic findings from multimodal imaging. We describe the case of a 30-year-old man, otherwise healthy, who experienced acute vision loss in his left eye 1 week after testing positive for COVID-19. His initial visual acuity was 20/20 in the ri

Efficacy and Safety of Epi-On vs Epi-Off Corneal Cross-Linking in Corneal Ectasia: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.

Corneal ectasias are progressive conditions that impair vision and quality of life. Corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) aims to halt disease progression by strengthening the cornea. This review compares two CXL methods, epithelium-on (epi-on) and epithelium-off (epi-off), to assess their safety and effectiveness for managing corneal ectasia. A systematic search up to July 2024 of PubMed, Medline, Web of Science, Cochrane Central, Google Scholar, and Scopus identified 13 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving 872 patients and 1041 eyes. Data were analyzed following PRISMA guidelines usi
