Acoustic and perceptual correlates of velopharyngeal competency in two groups of retarded (one Down syndrome, one idiopathic) and one group of nonretarded subjects, equally divided between males and females, was evaluated. There were 20 young adults in each group. Acoustic measures of hypernasality were obtained through analysis by TONAR II. Perceptual judgments were rendered by 15 listeners. An account of the incidence and features of fever, angina, adenopathy and splenomegaly in infectious mononucleosis is followed by an explanation of the importance of palpebral oedema, nasal obstruction, and exanthema and enanthema, the characteristics of which may prove of diagnostic assistance. Attention is drawn to the presence of maculopapular and itching exanthema, particularly after semi-synthetic penicillins. An assessment is also made of liver, myocardial and renal changes, since it is felt that involvement of these organs is an integral part of the clinical picture.

Five cases of marble bones in two families living near Brescia are presented. Case 1 (42-yr-old female) was a typical malignant form with deep and extensive eburnation, many pathological fractures, concomitant osteitis and the formation of many fistulae, massive spleen enlargement and infarct, and marked anaemia with clear signs of extra-medullary haemopoiesis. Between 1953 and 1976 a total of 2527 mitral commissurotomies have been performed in the Clinic for Cardio-Vascular Surgery of the "Fundeni" Hospital. This group included cases with pure mitral stenosis (predominantly following rheumatic disease), but also cases of mitral stenosis associated with other cardiac lesions in which the major hemodynamic element was the mitral obstruction. Criteria are discussed for surgery, the preoperative preparation of the patient, incidents, accidents and complications, as well as technical difficulties of the digital and/or instrumental mitral commissurotomies

The authors present the results of study of the somatotropic function of the hypophysis in 18 healthy children and in 70 patients suffering from various forms of growth retardation. The blood serum level of the STH of the hypophysis was studied by the authors by standard sets for radioimmunological determination on fasting stomach and in dynamics during the standard glucose-tolerance test. Ninety-three persons with congenital talipes equinovarus were investigated in order to analyse the frequency of LBP and to relate these findings to the deformity of the foot.
