Follow-up After Urogynecologic Surgery: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

IMPORTANCE: Postoperative follow-up is critical in patient recovery, complication detection, and optimizing patient outcomes. Although traditionally, in-office postoperative visits have been the standard of care, remote postoperative follow-up via telehealth has emerged as a comparable alternative. OBJECTIVE: The objective was to systematically review the literature comparing in-office and remote (telehealth visits, phone calls, or apps) postoperative follow-up after urogynecologic surgery to assess the effect on patient satisfaction, health care utilization, and adverse events. STUDY DESIGN

Stool Microbiota, Metabolites, and Fecal Incontinence in Women.

IMPORTANCE: Stool metabolites influencing gut motility and sensation may contribute to fecal incontinence (FI). OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to test whether FI is associated with higher levels of butyrate and Clostridiales taxa in stool. STUDY DESIGN: Stool metabolites and microbiota were compared between 96 women with FI and 42 controls. FI frequency and subtype (urgency vs insensible) were measured using a 14-day bowel diary, St. Mark's score, and the Accidental Bowel Leakage questionnaire. Metabolite analysis included targeted analysis (8 short-chain fatty acids including bu

Cryoanalgesia in Thoracic Surgery.

Cryoanalgesia is a technique for reducing postoperative pain that involves freezing peripheral nerves while preserving their ability to regain function over time. The technique has been used for decades, and randomized trials have shown a reduction in pain and opioid use in some patients undergoing thoracotomy and pectus excavatum repair. In these trials, outcomes were highly dependent on the control groups. Randomized studies of patients undergoing minimally invasive thoracic surgery have failed to show the same results. Furthermore, several studies have reported chronic pain and neuropathic-
