A 60-year-old woman with chronic atraumatic shoulder pain underwent arthroscopic biceps tenodesis. Upon presenting to the physical therapy clinic 7 days following surgery, she reported constant pain. Following the examination, the physical therapist reviewed the patient's postoperative radiographs and noted a comminuted but minimally displaced fracture of the right proximal humeral metaphysis. A 24-year-old man presented with lower abdominal pain that had been present for 18 hours. Physical examination revealed mild tenderness in the lower abdomen. Digital rectal examination revealed a tender point approximately 9 cm above the anal verge. Transrectal sonographic examination demonstrated an ovoid echogenic noncompressible mass surrounded by a hypoechoic halo attached to the wall of the rectosigmoid junction. A diagnosis of epiploic appendagitis was made on the basis of sonographic findings and was subsequently confirmed with contrast-enhanced CT.

A 23-month-old Caucasian girl had congenital circumscribed areas of deeply pigmented terminal hairs that gradually lost their pigment over the next two years. Physical examination revealed no other abnormalities. Histologic examination demonstrated terminal hair in otherwise normal skin consistent with nevoid hypertrichosis. Accurate diagnosis of lumbar disc disease requires a thorough examination. Appropriate neurodiagnostic studies are required to confirm the suspected diagnosis. Other diagnoses should be considered prior to surgery, especially when there is a lack of correlation between the history, physical examination, or radiologic investigation. Proper surgical techniques should also help in preventing complications and are further discussed in this article.
