WHAT IS ALREADY KNOWN ABOUT THIS SUBJECT: Dextromethorphan is widely used as a cough suppressant in over the counter medications. Its efficacy in altering cough reflex sensitivity has been shown in healthy volunteers. In contrast evidence for an effect on clinically important cough is poor.

Vasovagal Syncope (VVS) is mediated by a cardiac autonomic reflex with resultant bradycardia and hypotension, precipitating syncope. While benign and mostly well controlled, recurrent VVS can be debilitating and warrants intervention. Non-pharmacological management of VVS have had variable success. In patients with recurrent cardioinhibitory VVS, permanent pacing can be effective. PURPOSE: Convulsive epileptic seizures triggered by transient cerebral hypoperfusion 'reflex anoxic seizures' are well-described in children but are not commonly recognized in adults.
METHODS: We report a case series of 12 adults who presented acutely after generalized tonic-clonic seizures with a clear syncopal phase before the convulsion. We describe the aetiology, semiology and natural history of these events.

The effects of baclofen and pancuronium bromide on evoked electromyogram (EMG), cortical electroencephalogram (EEG) and auditory brainstem responses (ABR) were studied in pentobarbital anesthetized normal rabbits. Cases of Mallory-Weiss syndrome aged over 75 year were analyzed with regard to their clinical features. In a 5-year period, there were 9 such cases, representing 19% of the total number of Mallory-Weiss syndrome cases.
