A newborn infant was diagnosed with an imperforate anus, and colostomy was performed one day after birth. He exhibited repeated episodes of poor oxygenation during intubation, and a CT scan revealed a bridging bronchus. He was scheduled to undergo sacroperineal repair in the prone position 8 months later. A tracheal tube, with its tip modified to widen the opening, was inserted through the nose. This led to normal oxygenation, even while in the prone position. The surgery was completed without any complications.

The description of precise intrabronchial positions for the sampling of mediastinal-hilar lymph nodes is critical to successfully perform conventional transbronchial needle aspiration. Previously published maps of mediastinal-hilar lymph nodes were primarily drawn based on experts' experience. We generated a virtual map of the most frequently sampled intrathoracic lymph nodes from an intrabronchial perspective using a virtual bronchoscopic navigation system, to assist with training in conventional transbronchial needle aspiration.

Intractable cough is one of the debilitating conditions, which warrants immediate investigation to find out the underlying cause. There are numerous causes of intractable cough. We present one such young immunocompromised post renal transplant patient with pulmonary tuberculosis and severe uncontrolled cough due to bronchoesophageal fistula. Bronchoesophageal fistula representing abnormal communication between bronchus and esophagus is an uncommon condition. We emphasize the role of CT in such cases.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of annexin A2 (AnxA2) on epithelial growth factor receptor (EGFR)/nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) signal transduction and mucin expression in human airway epithelial H292 cells treated with Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP).
METHODS: H292 cells were divided into control group, MP group, NC-siRNA+MP group, and AnxA2 siRNA+MP group. The cells in the MP group were incubated with 5 μg/mL MP antigen for 2 hours. The cells in the NC-siRNA+MP and AnxA2 siRNA+MP groups were transfected with NC-siRNA and AnxA2 siRNA for 24 hours, followed by MP antigen stimulation for 2 hours.

Endobronchial aspergilloma is a rare and unusual presentation of lung aspergilloma; the natural history for such rare diseases is poorly understood. This report presents two cases of endobronchial aspergilloma complicated by primary and metastatic lung cancer, and summarizes previous reports that suggest that an endobronchial lung cancer lesion may promote the colonialization and growth of Aspergillus species in the bronchus. Therefore, if endobronchial aspergilloma is found, the complication of primary or metastatic endobronchial lung cancer should be carefully considered.
