Clinical utility of the GAD-7 for detecting generalized anxiety in Quechua indigenous people.

UNLABELLED: The detection of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) in indigenous populations poses a challenge due to their holistic approach to health, which significantly contrasts with the Western biomedical model. Moreover, conventional assessment tools often overlook cultural particularities, compromising their effectiveness in these contexts. OBJECTIVE: Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the diagnostic accuracy of the GAD-7 in the Quechua indigenous population of the Peruvian Andes. METHOD: To address this issue, we conducted a case-control study to evaluate the clinical accuracy of t

8-Methoxypeucedanin: Evaluation of Anxiolytic Effects and Modulation of Neuronal Activity Related Genes in a Zebrafish Anxiety Mode.

For thousands of years, medicinal plants and their constituents have been used, mostly empirically/ethnopharmacologically, to cure patients with central nervous system (CNS) disorders. Anxiolytics derived from natural products (NPs) often share similar mechanisms of action to synthetic ones (e.g., benzodiazepines, BDZs). Although typically as effective as synthetic anxiolytics, NPs are considered to be devoid of the serious side effects linked to the use of BDZs. 8-Methoxypeucedanin (8-MP) is a rare furanocoumarin present in the fruits of Peucedanum luxurians Tamamsch. (Apiaceae). The primary

The effect of acute and chronic formaldehyde exposure on learning and memory in male and female rats.

AIM: Formaldehyde is a chemical that lies behind the various systemical failures in organism. Many products that people use contain formaldehyde. Owing to its tissue fixative properties, scientists who work in life sciences are exposed to this substance more than others. Several studies have shown that formaldehyde affects the CA1 and CA3 regions of the hippocampus, which play crucial roles in memory consolidation. In this study, we aimed to investigate anxiety levels and indicate the short and long term effects of formaldehyde and sex-related differences by exposing formaldehyde to male and f

Diazepam promotes active avoidance extinction associating with increased dorsal CA3 and amygdala activity.

Active avoidance (AA) is an adaptive response to potentially harmful situations while maladapted avoidance that does not extinguish is one of the core symptoms of anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder. However, the neural mechanisms of AA extinction and its relationship to anxiety remain unclear. We examined AA extinction during three extinction training sessions in two-way active avoidance paradigm and tested the effect of anxiolytic on AA extinction. Then we performed a meta-analysis of rodent studies, identified anxiolytic diazepam facilitates AA acquisition, and tested the same treatm

Anxiolytic-like effect of chalcone N-{(4'-[(E)-3-(4-fluorophenyl)-1-(phenyl) prop-2-en-1-one]} acetamide on adult zebrafish (Danio rerio): Involvement of the GABAergic system.

Benzodiazepines are the standard drugs for the treatment of anxiety, but their undesirable side effects make it necessary to develop new anxiolytic drugs. The objective of this study was to evaluate the possible anxiolytic-simile effect of synthetic chalcone N-{(4'-[(E)-3-(4-fluorophenyl)-1-(phenyl) prop-2-en-1-one]} acetamide (PAAPFBA) on adult zebrafish (Danio rerio). PAAPFBA was synthesized with an 88.21% yield and its chemical structure was determined by 1H and 13C NMR. Initially, animals (n = 6/group) were treated (4 or 12 or 40 mg/kg, intraperitoneal) with PAAPFBA and were submitted to a

Depression-like behaviors induced by chronic corticosterone exposure via drinking water: Time-course analysis.

Hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis activity is commonly dysregulated in stress-related psychiatric disorders. The corticosterone rat model was developed to understand the influence of stress on depression-like symptomatology. To further understand the effects of corticosterone on the development of depression-like behavior, rats were continuously exposed to corticosterone (200 μg/ml) or vehicle via drinking water daily for 21 days. The rats underwent a series of behavioral tests, and electroencephalographical recordings were performed after 7, 14, and 21 days of treatment. The measureme
