Primary hyperaldosteronism is an increasingly recognized syndrome in cats, and diagnosis can be difficult. A potential diagnostic method has been reported, utilizing oral fludrocortisone administered twice daily for 4 days followed by collection of urine. BACKGROUND: For patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), peritoneal dialysis (PD) serves as a possible renal replacement therapy. However, most PD patients, particularly those with ESRD and diabetes mellitus, reportedly discontinue PD early, resulting in shorter survival periods and poorer prognosis because of overhydration. STUDY DESIGN: This was a cross-sectional survey study completed by a convenience sample of African-American women attending a community fair. Questions covered demographics, medical history, technology use, and fibroid knowledge. A total of437 surveys were distributed, 320 were returned, and 199 met eligibility criteria.

Camptocormia is defined as a marked dystonic flexion of the trunk in the sagittal plane. Camptocormia responds poorly to botulinum toxin injections, manipulation with dopaminergic treatment, and deep brain stimulation. We designed a prospective pilot study to assess the effect of apomorphine infusions on camptocormia. Five patients were enrolled. All five patients responded well to this treatment. The fact that camptocormia responds so well to apomorphine may be explained by the sustained stimulation of the ventrolateral striatal D1 receptors, alleviating this type of dystonia.

BACKGROUND: We sought to assess a novel, noninvasive, portable vagal nerve stimulator (nVNS) for acute treatment of migraine.
METHODS: Participants with migraine with or without aura were eligible for an open-label, single-arm, multiple-attack study. Up to four migraine attacks were treated with two 90-second doses, at 15-minute intervals delivered to the right cervical branch of the vagus nerve within a six-week time period. Atrial fibrillation (AF), the most common supraventricular tachycardia, has a morphological base, so called remodelation of atrial myocardium, with its abnormal conduction pattern as a consequence. The remodelation regards electrical, contractile, and structural properties. In this pilot study we attempted to find relations between the myocardial morphological (scarring, amyloidosis, left atrial enlargement) and electrophysiological (ECG characteristics of the P-wave) changes in patients with AF. Sensory-motor returning (SMR) can help the symptoms of task-specific focal hand dystonia. However, effects vary across patients and take many sessions. Here, we present proof of principle evidence that transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) can enhance these effects. We compared the effects of a combined tDCS-SMR protocol (n=4 patients) with the efficacy of SMR alone (n=30 patients). All 4 patients treated with the combined protocol showed greater improvement than those undergoing SMR alone. Results encourage a larger, parallel-group clinical trial with sham tDCS control.
