By means of radio-immunoassay the concentration of human growth hormone (HGH) was measured in the blood plasma of 61 patients with psoriasis (21 suffering from psoriasis vulgaris and 40 with psoriatic arthritis), 30 patients with ankylosing spondylitis, 9 with atypical spondylarthritis and 34 patients with diseases of the soft tissue or degenerative joint and spinal column disease. Geographic tongue and fissured tongue may be mucosal manifestations of generalized pustular psoriasis. All three disorders have polygenic inheritance patterns and affected patients may share genes. Five patients in three families with geographic tongue, fissured tongue, and generalized pustular psoriasis are described and the lingual lesions of generalized pustular psoriasis are reviewed.

Mononuclear cells in the dermis were characterized and counted in cryostat sections of lesional skin from 34 patients with various clinical forms of psoriasis. A double-blind comparison of the effectiveness of 0.25% desoxymethasone and 0.05% betamethasone 17,21-dipropionate creams was carried out in 40 patients with symmetrical, chronic psoriatic lesions. The lesions were pre-treated for 1 week with an inactive cream base and then the trial preparations were applied, without occlusion, to one or other side at random twice daily for 21 days. Overall response to treatment and the effect of the two topical steroids on scaling, induration, erythema, and pruritus were assessed at the start of and 4, 7, 14, and 21 days after the start of active treatment.

The granulocytes of a patient with generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP) were found to have impaired ability to fix iodine after ingestion of yeast particles.
