The presence of subarachnoid blood following head injury is a significant risk factor for poor outcome. Treatment aims to prevent and treat secondary hypoxia, hypotension, intracranial haematoma, epilepsy and infection. There is good evidence for the benefit of nimodipine in aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage. Its role in preventing cerebral ischaemia following trauma is currently under investigation.

This paper reports on the effectiveness of oral lamotrigine in 15 patients suffering from "essential" trigeminal neuralgia and in five patients suffering symptomatic trigeminal neuralgia concomitant with multiple sclerosis. We recorded objective and subjective pain ratings and correlated them to daily dosage (400 mg maximum) and plasma levels of the drug. We detected pain relief proportional to daily dosage and to drug plasma levels. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the modification of the resistive inspiratory properties of the respiratory system associated with hypocapnia in the presence of nicardipine.
METHODS: The resistance of the respiratory system, Rrsmin, was studied in two groups of patients who needed mechanical hyperventilation. Group 1 (n = 14; 47 years) was the control group (head injuries); group 2 (n = 12; 53.5 years) included patients treated over a 3 week period with nicardipine (0.5 microgram.kg-1.min-1 i.v.) to prevent arterial vasospasm after subarachnoid haemorrhage.

The analysis of original and literature evidence on nimodipin administration in senile patients with vascular dementia and Alzheimer's disease allows the conclusion on positive effects of the drug on cognitive, motor, behavioral, neuropsychological and postural defects. AIM: To study the effects of tetrandrine (Tet) and chlorpromazine (Chl) on synthesis of collagen and hyaluronic acid (HA) in cultured human lung fibroblasts (HLF).
METHODS: The synthesis of collagen and HA was assessed by measuring the incorporation of [3H]proline and radioimmunoassay.
