Eighty-four patients with testicular seminoma were treated at the Northern Israel Oncology Center during the years 1968-1988. Using the staging classification of Hussey, 69 patients (82%) had Stage I, eight (10%) had Stage IIA, four (5%) had Stage IIB, one (1%) had Stage IIIA, and two (2%) had Stage IIIB disease. Cardiovascular complications from irradiation for breast carcinoma were assessed by history, physical examination, ECG recording, exercise test and heart volume determination before and two and six months after treatment in 197 unselected patients. A deterioration in general condition during therapy was reported by about 50 per cent of the patients, with shortness of breath and palpitation of the heart as the most frequent complaints and with a gradual improvement after therapy. d-Arabinose isomerase (EC 5.3.1.3) has been isolated from l-fucose-induced cultures of Escherichia coli K-12 and d-arabinose-induced cultures of E. coli B/r. Both enzymes were homogeneous in an ultracentrifuge and migrated as single bands upon disc electrophoresis in acrylamide gels. BACKGROUND: Accelerated radiotherapy and/or chemo-radiotherapy of the head and neck region decrease the tolerance of acute responding tissues. Tissue tolerance is also field size dependent.

The incidence of CNS metastases in germ cell tumors is 2-5% and in very advanced disease over 20%. We report on 37 patients in whom CNS metastases were diagnosed with the CAT scanner. Twenty-nine patients were subsequently treated. In 19 cases, treatment consisted of radiotherapy, 1 patient was only operated on, and in 9 cases patients received combined surgery and radiotherapy. This paper describes the results of combined surgical and radiotherapy management of 118 patients with soft tissue sarcoma referred to the Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology at Portsmouth between 1965 and 1985. After exclusion of paediatric rhabdomysarcomas, tumours of the gastrointestinal tract and patients who were referred for follow-up only, 109 patients were left for retrospective analysis: 23 patients had surgery only, 11 received a course of preoperative radiotherapy, 52 were irradiated postoperatively and 14 had only radiotherapy. Metastatic Spinal Cord Compression (MSCC), an oncologic emergency, is a frequent complication of many neoplastic diseases in an advanced stage.
